Airbus configuration offers space for 6 more seats
A new configuration aboard the Airbus A320 family of aircraft promises to save space. The Space-Flex option offers room for up to six more seats. The Space-Flex v1 option is available now, while the Space-Flex v2 will be available in the second quarter of next year.

Cayman Airways adds first Saab 340B
Cayman Airways has added its first Saab 340B, which will operate on the airline's route between Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. The airline had operated only Boeing 737s and de Havilland Canada Twin Otters. “We are thrilled to take possession of this new aircraft, which will officially start flying scheduled flights in September,” says Cayman Airways president and chief executive Fabian Whorms.

IndiGo firms order for 250 A320neos
Indian low-cost giant IndiGo has firmed an order for 250 Airbus A320neo aircraft, the largest order by number for the Toulouse-based airframer. “This new order further reaffirms IndiGo’s commitment to the long-term development of affordable air transportation in India and overseas. The IndiGo team is even more energised and excited than ever before to herald this new phase of our growth for many years to come,” says carrier president Aditya Ghosh.

Trigana Air has long history of safety issues
Prior to the 16 August disappearance of a Trigana Air ATR 42-300, the carrier has been involved in 19 serious safety incidents since 1992, resulting in the loss of eight aircraft and major damage to 11 others. The Indonesian government has said that the aircraft, registered PK-YRN and operating flight IL257, probably crashed in mountainous terrain in Ok Bape district of eastern Papua, while carrying 49 passengers and five crew. The search for the aircraft continues.

United supports NextGen effort for air traffic control
The Federal Aviation Administration is preparing to roll out NextGen technology to update the air traffic control system. "We support any efforts to more quickly implement capabilities that will improve the national airspace system and the flow of air traffic around the country," said a spokeswoman for United Airlines.

Passenger traffic is up 13% at Sea-Tac Airport
Washington's Seattle-Tacoma International Airport saw 13% more passenger traffic in the first six months of this year than it did in the first half of 2014. Airline customers are benefiting from new routes and increased air service options carriers are offering, and the Transportation Security Administration and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are increasing their staffs to accommodate the growing traffic.

Ariz. airport set record for originating trips in 2014
Yuma International Airport in Arizona set a new record for passengers originating at the airport in 2014. Last year, 90,732 passengers started their trips at the airport, an increase of 15% from the prior year.
