Do Asians Find American/European Humor Funny?

Everything that would not belong anywhere else.

Just curious. I wonder if American/European humor is typically funny in Asian cultures (not Asian Americans or anything). Sure physical comedy has no barriers.

For some reason I just can't imagine a group of Chinese or Indians in Asia sitting around laughing at Monty Python with subitles.

Seriously,

My first wife {rip} was Japanese. Her Dad had a hell of a sense of humor. Her Mom, and Grandmother, not so much . . . when they were around "men". I think it had to do with the Japanese society. Her Mom occasionally laughed at some things I said/did, her Grandmother never. But we all got along.

I recall someone on a.net named Aaron (an American married to a Japanese woman and living in Japan) mentioning something about this a few months ago. He said that the Japanese tend to get their jollies out of observing the behavior of Americans and they do so in a arrogant, disparaging way.

LOL {laugh}

I think its interesting how countries have different senses of humor. An old work colleague was just a few years older than me but was born in China and lived there most his life. He would laugh at 'jokes' or poor attempts at humor, jokes that me, a Filipino guy, and a Latino guy didn't find funny at all. Or he would laugh at the wrong part of the joke or story. My old boss did this too, he was Japanese. But he was drunk a lot too.

The Japanese tend to look at everyone not Japanese in an arrogant and disparaging way. Japan is an amazingly racist nation, in a polite way. But then again, so are many of the Southeast Asian nations.

Back to the quesiton at hand. The Japanese have a love for word puns, which rarely translate well... Making their sense of humor seem a tad odd.
