Awesome stories Pep, your Gramps sounded like one cool guy. That's must have been neat that your dad got to work with him too. Sorry to hear he's gone, but I'm glad you have the pictures and memories. Priceless stuff really. Thanks for sharing them.

Like the ship thread - I like trains too. As AFG put it in that thread, if its big and moves - I like it.

My Grandfather worked for the old Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Railroad as a lawyer. (Later becoming the Chessie System, and now CSX Transportation) My Grandmother was postmaster at the Rock Castle station in Goochland County Virginia for many, many years. My brother and I would spend summers there running around the platform. It was always fun to hang out and watch them toss the incoming mail bag onto the platform, and pick-up the outgoing mail with a hook at the other end. We took turns getting to hang the bag on the post for the train. Sometimes it took both of us to hang it because it was too heavy for just one of us. This was all back in the 60s before they stopped running the mail that way, and soon after they stopped running the passenger trains along that stretch of track.....

The memories...... {cheerful} {cheerful}
Rack-em'. I'm getting a beer.

Looks like WP&YR #90 is on its way back home after a rebuild.
