In the last year of school I had an evening job at a fish & chip restaurant (The Cottage, for those who know Blackpool) and we always found that locally caught fish was never as fresh as the trawler-frozen stuff from Greenland. We had sealed stainless steel drawers for the fish to defrost in - they smelled awful by the end of each night

I have to agree. They feel as if someone already chewed them for me. {vomit}

{check} Mushy peas are evil. Most fish & chip shops also use a fair few chemicals to make them go mushy quicker & to stop the colour bleaching out of them during cooking.

Steak & kidney pudding, chips & gravy was always my favourite from the chippy {thumbsup}
A million great ideas...

I love tartar sauce and ketchup. Can't stand vinegar. :))

Blasphemer! I bet you are also in love with the most vile thing on this planet, alfredo sauce. {yuck}

Alfredo Sauce is FTW.

As for mushy peas... EW. I dont even like regular peas, I definitely don't need baby food peas.
I'm baaaaaaack.

I know, I'm the only person that feel this way anyhow.

I don't like mushy peas, but fresh snow peas are excellent.

{thumbsup} {thumbsup} I like snow peas...

But in all seriousness, maybe our UK members can explain what's up with all the peas.

I spent three weeks over there my only time in the UK and drove pretty much all over the country. I swear they served me peas along with every meal I ate.

Is that normal? Or did they just have a bumper crop that year... {bugeye}
The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers...

This topic is about fish & chips and their associated products. If you must enter the conversation with snow peas, please explain to us British what they are - we're easily confused :))

As a side note, purely because of this thread I had to visit the Grasmere Chippy for fish & chips tonight. My children say thanks as they got to indulge in their favourite delicacy of sausage, chips, gravy and lashing of tomato ketchup. I will make them eat extra fruit tomorrow to compensate for the lack of vitamins in today's diet ;)
A million great ideas...

Man, Lucas, no wonder you're so thin! Those eating habits must come in handy for that. Mayo and cream based sauces/condiments are like a main food group! I made some homemade fettuccine alfredo last night... yum!

Peas should only be eaten right out of the pod. 8)

You might be on to something. On the other hand, I'm not very fond of fish, though I will eat it. I'm more of a steak/potatoes/every vegetable sort of person. During the summer, I become hypercarnivorous.

I don't mind that much. I can lift a lot more than a bunch of the pantywaist dub-basses that I work with and I can do it safely. Unfortunately, I think my BMI is probably too low. I'm in the low 19s the last I recall. I don't have very much in the way of reserves if things go bad.

Now, catching the famed Getbackontopic fish (Vectored there by NAS ATC!), fish and chips is probably the best way to serve fish, unless it's outside and done with hush puppies. Processed fishish is absolutely uncalled for.

If I have to eat fish, especially trout types, I don't want them to be anadromous. Tastes gross. A rainbow trout is most to my taste.

And I'll take Mark's pictured meal over that most of the time. {cheerful}
