Here's another one for you....

You can't see the pointer in this shot but it's at the upper-right where "Reply With Quote" appears. Only the very top of the utility icons show up, and the same thing is happening with the "Reply" button at the top and bottom. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13

I know it's kinda freaky with Cadet's screenshot inside my screenshot. Cool, huh? :))

Date issue

I ran a database script to do precisely that, some days ago; it should have got everyone. If not, or if someone changed it back while they still had the option, it would look exactly like that. We can change them manually in the admin panel, or re-run the script.

I'm still not 100% sure that's halls' issue, although it would explain why logging in makes a difference.

I'll take a look tonight.

Icons

Okay, that's just weird. I've a funny feeling I know what's going on, though.

When the date is fully spelled out, the time drops down so that you can't see it. When the date is abbreviated, the time is obscured by the the icon at the right side of the box.

I'm getting the same result on my Windows unit here at work.

It's Hotmail, it had my e-mail address on it and I didn't necessarily want that in the clear. ;)

Ed, I just updated to Firefox 4.0, then to 8.0.1- Same thing. If you look carefully there seems to be a line in the color change from just above the username that runs all the way across. I'm wondering if there's some kind of layering thing going on where the username is masking all the way across to those icons.

That, I don't understand. I was beginning to suspect that the Mac was using a wider font, but if it's happening on Windows too I don't know. I'm gonna go with Stefan's original guess of system-wide font sizes for now, but until I see it I'm afraid I'm just stabbing in the dark. I installed the latest Safari here and it's fine, as it is in the latest Firefox (under Windows 7). This place seems to be entirely Mac-free, I've had a look.

Just so you know, I can see everything up to and including the @, and I can kind of guess the rest. You may have uploaded a replacement image I'm not seeing, though.

That line is intentional, it's the highlight on the glass and it's in the images themselves. (There's a reason why this artwork isn't final. I suck at the pretty stuff.) I think it's because of the way those icons are done. It's actually a standard link with some text and a background image. The idea was that the old stripped-down skin would show the text ("Quote", etc.), while this one would show the rollover icon. In this version, the font-size of the link is set to zero, with a line-height to stop it from collapsing. Seems your FF may not be respecting the line-height. That may be a FF Linux thing. Joy.

Yeah, I did shortly after posting it. A page refresh fixed it.

I just installed Chromium 7.0.517.44 and the site looks much better now than it did on Firefox.

Not really a fan of the layout, TBH. On the main pages, it makes more sense to me to have the thread title on the left, and the poster on the right... like every other forum on the planet does, or at least the forums I've visited.

Also, while I love contrast in photos, I'm not a fan of the high contrast b/w the background and the posts. Something like gray pinstripes over white/off white would be more pleasing to me. As it stands, I feel my eyes straining trying to read the white letters on black text, or trying to read black letters in a white box, which is over a black background.

How come I don't see the little thingy I've circled? The icon to the left of netairspace.com and Airwhiners.com.

Mine is just blank.

Mine is blank for 'Whiners, too. On every computer and browser I use. The folks that run 'Whiners are just too cheap and lazy to put an icon for it.

But why is mine blank for NAS if you and Cadet have one???

Those little icons (favicons) are a pain. It seems that many browsers cache them (or their absence) quite aggressively, and it can take some jiggery-pokery to persuade them to show up. I really don't know why, when they're absolutely tiny, but that's the way it is.

If you're not seeing ours, you could try going to http://www.netairspace.cc/favicon.ico and doing a Ctrl-refresh if it doesn't show.

As for the whiners one, you'd need to speak to the blithering incompetents who run that sewer. {mischief}

I agree, the site looks better on Chrome, but the time problem on the left hand box still exists. When you aren't signed in, nothing is obscured. Once you sign in, the time is unreadable.

I like the new skin, BTW. {thumbsup} {thumbsup}

On my work machine I manually deleted all NAS cookies, did a ctrl-refresh, nothing happened.

So I restarted Firefox, and after about ten minutes, the icon appeared! I went home for lunch and tried the same thing on that computer. No luck...

Yeah, it's not showing up for me on Chrome. It's no biggie though, I hardly ever look at them anyway.

I like putting them on my bookmarks toolbar with no text, you can put about fifty of them up there and have all your favorite sites in just a click.

Getting back to the time being obscured, could the "view latest post" icon be moved up so it is on the same level as the user name? Or is that too difficult/not possible?

It's possible, but space up there is limited too; given a long username we'll be back to square one. Mine's about at the character limit but has two Is and no Ms; it would be a tight fit already.

When I'm home later, I'll trawl through the database table and see if there's some setting in your profile that may have got set. I can't see anything in the user panel that would do it, but I think I know what it might be. If I can see a screenshot so I know what I'm trying to fix, it'll be a lot easier. PM me if you need a hand with that.
