...really is not a sufficient reason for climbing a mountain.

A male hiker fell to his death on Saturday while climbing Yosemite's famed Half Dome, park rangers said.

IIRC, the cable runs up the backside of the mountain. It's not the shear face that you see people climbing up on.

Well...it was two different mountains anyway...but I just had to work something in.

I might catch some flack for this but what the hell. If there is a permanent cable on the mountain you are not "climbing" it.

IIRC, climbing without ropes or other aids is known as free-climbing. But yes, part of me agrees with your point.

According to the article, the most recent death before this one occured almost two years ago, yet 50,000 climb it every year. I gotta say this, 1 death per 100,000 ascents up that thing?!?! I'm surprised it's not more.

And I'm with you, I ain't getting near it myself...

A few years ago I was at Devil's Tower and this guy was about half way up and started hollering he was stuck... Couldn't hardly see him...

If you look close you can see his two friends above him... He's about 500-600 feet up...

Whatever floats your boat, but I'm not going up after him... 8)
