San Antonio at 7 surprises me.

I was surprised SJC was #10.

If you dropped Ole Mambi on them, you would eliminate the immigration issue, the welfare issue, ACORN, and a whole host of other issues...

That list is only cities, not their metro catchment areas.

Sacramento has only 450,000 population, but the metro area is about 2 million.

San Jose is just a sprawling dump. Everytime I'm there the best part is leaving.

Goes to show that metro areas' main source of population are outlying areas. Like Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/Palm Beach, or LA's numerous hamlets.

In terms of trying to eat something that isn't Mexican food it might as well be Laredo.

And it's spreading up 35. I'd bet that in 10 years, if the economy recovers soon, there will be tract homes and what not from SAT-AUS.

It is pretty close to that now.. The northern suburbs of SAT have kind of grown into New Braunfels.. Which has grown into San Marcos.. Then there is about a 2 minute stretch of nothing before you hit Buda.

That is one stretch of highway I positively hate driving.. No matter when you do it its 90 minutes of not being able to set the cruise. It was just widened a couple years ago and it already needs widened again.

Amen. I've driven it a few times and as a visitor, I'm amazed how goddamned crowded I-35 is from SAT to DFW.

No I wasn't born in Sitka . . . but I got a good chuckle outta that one too.

Skagway - where I grew up - #13 on the list . . . That damn little town is 1.2 miles long and 5 blocks wide . . . not counting Dyea, etc.

At least Anchorage, at #3, has something of value . . . the city spans from Girdwood to the Mat River bridge.

That list is counting population within the city limits, so basically it all depends on the annexation rules of the state the city sits in. Indy, which just misses the list, counts damn near all of Marion County as its "City" even though alot of the areas even go by different city names in their mailing addresses.

On the flip side is Pittsburgh, which the city proper is just a tiny bit of what even the locals consider Pittsburgh as a whole. Many neighborhoods are actually parts of other municipalities.


Now, I'm sure somewhere on another site people will use this list as reason that "Why doesn't _____ have service to ____ we're a top 10 city in the US!"

Worthless statistic I think.. have to go by MSAs. San Antonio doesn't crack the top 25 there.

There is no such thing as Dallas, Ft Worth, Arlington, Irving etc to people that live here. It's just the Metroplex... or when talking to people outside of Texas... Dallas.

Same thing with lots of places- LA comes to mind.. or Atlanta with a MSA 10 times the size of the city itself. You can't compare metro area of DFW to the city propers of others. By that logic, MKE would be #5 on that list.

LA is like that. Lots of little towns/municipality, but it's all "LA" to me. Same with Miami. You don't think of Miami as a scattering of little towns and suburbs, you think of the whole thing as "South Florida"
