What: Brief outage(s)
When: Random times between roughly 1500-1700 GMT, 01 OCT 2015
Why: No site migration is complete without random outages. Also, need to guarantee no database writes at critical points.
There are still one or two loose ends to tie up after the server migration. Nothing that you'd notice, but the sort of stuff that really does have to be in place and working. I'm planning to finish that off tomorrow (Thursday) evening Finnish time, roughly 1500-1700 GMT; it might start earlier if I can get out of the office, might end later if it gets ugly.
For at least part of that work, it's absolutely critical that nothing write to the database. So, hopefully for the last time, there will be one or more outages while everything and everyone is locked out. They will be short (in the order of several minutes, I expect), and won't be announced individually.
Uploading: I'll wait for a gap where I see nobody doing that, then disable uploading shortly before taking the site down altogether.
Posting: I'll do my best to avoid trampling on anyone who's posting, but can't guarantee it. As is always the case when maintenance is going on: If you're composing a longer post, copy it somewhere before hitting the Save, Preview or Submit buttons, just in case.
I'll post here again shortly before beginning work, and again at the end of it.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.
