This will be mostly for the US members I suspect – I don't know if Golden Corral is international or not.

Do you eat there? I eat lunches there once or twice a month – mostly due to convenience, and the food isn't too bad either. It has certainly gotten better than it was in the past.

They are starting to get a clientèle that will soon need their own website, similar to www.peopleofwalmart.com.

My biggest gripe is how they now ask at the register when you present a debit/credit card to pay is “would you like any cash back for your server”? I answer “I am my server” and it is usually greeted with raised eyebrows. Well, they don't have servers anymore - the customer does EVERYTHING for themselves, except for re-filling their own drink. They are nothing more than bus-boys that take your dirty plate. Hence, I don't leave a tip. We were discussing this is in the office, and we're about split – tip or no tip.

The argument to still leave a tip comes from the folks that say they are only being paid as a server, and rely on the tips. My rebuttal to that is their gripe is with their employer, and not their customer. They take the job knowing what their wage is going to be….

What about you fine folks on NAS – what say you?

I don't remember anything like that. It's been a while since my last visit too, though.

Furr's is similar. While they don't ask you anything like that at the register (that I recall), they do have "servers" that walk around and ask if you'd like anything. I've always left a tip there. I don't think I've left anything at Golden Corral though.

I haven't been there in quite a while, but it's not bad for a buffet.

You're right, the "servers" are not really servers. If I get any service from them, I usually leave a couple of bucks. Sometimes I've had pretty attentive people that keep the table clear and fill the drinks and are pleasant. But if they ignore us or are rude, which is just as likely, they get nothing.

I wouldn't leave the ~20% that's normal in a full service place.

That's the way it works for me. Haven't been to the GC in a while. The clientele lately is using the GC as a final stop after shopping at the Wal-mart that is across the parking lot.

The last time we went there we accidentally arrived at around 4:45, so they charged us lunch price which is about 7 or 8 bucks. But at 5:00 dinner starts, which is $10-12, so we got dinner for lunch price.

We said at the time we'd have to do that again, but I haven't been back in probably a couple of years. I used to be able to do some damage to a buffet, but I just don't have the appetite I did when I was younger.

You and me both. I can't eat nearly as much as I used to.

A lady I saw today weighed in at about 350+, wearing spandex. I'm a firm believer that just because they make it in your size doesn't mean you have to wear it.

I leave a tip for people with whom I develop a short relationship. I call them by their name and they see me more than a couple of times- An average of probably 5 times in a single visit when they are taking care of me. Bringing me a drink after someone else took my order is not enough.

There's a breakfast waitress at Denny's that I always leave $10 for, even if I only have a $5 sandwich and a glass of water.

Golden Corral is not bad, but I very rarely go there. I've been probably twice in the last decade, last time was over 3 years ago.

I didn't mean to imply that I'm a cheap tipper either. I tip VERY well when deserved, but you gotta do more than take my dirty dishes to the sink.

I think I may have gone to one a long time back - where is it in comparison to something like Cracker Barrel (I know CB doesn't have a buffet)? Or is it more like a Ryan's Steakhouse (which does have a buffet)?

After someone told me they are paid like a waiter, meaning $2 an hour I started tipping them.. I had no idea until just last year.

Honestly, Golden Corral is pretty gross in my opinion.. About as clean as an IHOP but without the pancakes and transexuals. I hear you can find fat webmasters on Harleys grazing there though.

They have commercials here on TV all the time, however the closest one is 130+ miles away in Sacramento. Not surprising though given all the casino buffets in town... which tend to have the same server/tip problem. I'll leave a couple bucks when they truly make an effort to keep my drinks full and take way dirty plates promptly.

I am fine with not keeping it full all the time.. But when my glass sits empty for several minutes you suck as a server.
