I'm just not into photography like other people, but I do want to get a top-of-the-line piece someday. I've always been partial to Canon (since I use a Canon video recorder), but after reviewing threads here, reviews on the CNET and actually going to a nice camera store up in the more posh area around here, I've been thinking I'd like to get a Nikon D750. From the looks and reviews of it, it just seems to be the prototype of how a DSLR should function. I also know it's about lenses, too - which makes me think a couple of cameras would be nice (like a Nikon D3300 along with the 750), with lenses that are interchangeable. Maybe someday doing weddings here and there would be nice (I did videography on a friend's wedding, so I've gained a little flavor for it), along with other shoots and just having it/them for use in life in general.

So I thought I'd do a camera check about what you guys have and recommend - maybe get your insight, too, on what kinds of lenses you like to use, too.

I sold almost all of my camera gear some time ago but treated myself to some new gear last month. I have:

Nikon D3300 body.
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED (old lense, 1 of 2 I kept)
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm VRII
Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD
Tamron AF200-400 f/5.6 LD (the other old lense)

I'm not a massively serious photographer but I do like having enough gear to take a decent shot should the opportunity arise. Haven't had much chance to use the new gear yet due to the relentless bad weather but I should get out in the next few weeks to give it all a good field test.
A million great ideas...

Current gear:
Canon 5D Mark 2
Canon EF 17-40 F4L
Canon EF 70-200 F4L
Canon EF 100-400 F4.5-5.6L IS
Canon Extender EF 1.4x II

Some people might disagree, but you really can't go wrong with a Canon or Nikon (or Sony). Chances are you'll be pretty happy with photo quality no matter which brand you go with, so things like lens lineup, ergonomics, etc., are probably more important.

EOS650D
18-55mm IS
75-300 USM
55-250 IS USM

Really tempted to upgrade the body to the new 80D. Also tempted by a 100-400 lens but that might be a step too far for my savings :))

Canon EOS 7D
Canon EF-S 15-85mm 3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 70-300mm 4.0-5.6 IS USM

On the "one day..." wishlist:
Canon EF 28-300mm 3.5-5.6 L IS USM

Also following the rumours around a new 200-600mm L lens, though that will probably come for the price of a small house.

Anyone interested in a Canon 5D MkII?

No, but in the replacement you bought instead of it {mischief}

Seeing how much the 200-400 L cost, not sure I want to know the price of that 200-600 {crazy}
On a more reasonable scale, I'd love to see the 6D mkII that has been rumored to be released soon...

Just picked up enough overtime to buy a Canon 100-400 F/4.5-5.6L IS USM (1st Gen). B&H Still has them in stock, not sure if that means Canon is still making them or if they just still have them around. But the price has come down a bit with the new version being out.

Whoops. Just ordered the 80D.

Going to try it out with my EF-S 55-250 IS USM at first; may upgrade the lens in the future depending on the trade value of a 650D (probably not much; but every little helps!).

Canon 5D Mark II
Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Lens
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens
Canon Extender EF 1.4X II
Canon 600EX‑RT Speedlite

Too many lights to mention
Bescor LED-1200K Professional AC/DC Lighting Studio Kit
2x Paul Buff Alien Bee 800
1x Paul Buff Einstein
2 cheapo constant light flash kits
plus countless tripods, triggers, and 2 large octagon soft boxes

I feel as though right now I NEED a new body but I am baby broke. I would like to have a nice portrait (85mm?), macro lens, and the 1.4 extender III. I would also like to get one more Paul Buff Einstein light.

Following on my 80D purchase, I also decided to upgrade to L glass and have now purchased a 70-300 L IS USM lens which arrived yesterday and has already been on its first outing to MAN this morning.

Lol, I have no horse in that particular race. I've used both systems and like both systems. If I had the money I would have both at the same time.
