Turning My Back on Canon

Non-aviation photos, camera equipment and photography in general.

After thinking long and hard about what DSLR I have,I have decided to turn my back on Canon in favour of Nikon.
I previously owned several Canon DSLR`s and my latest 13 months ago was the Canon 7D,prior to that I had a 40D,450D and a 350D.

The 7D cost me £1200 new and to be brutally honest I was never fully happy with it,the image quality for such an expensive camera is simply not acceptable-too much noise and grain-okay when reduced to standard upload sizes,the images are passable,but I don`t think they are anything special.
For me Canon have become lazy,and the quality of product is not what it should be.

I went for a Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 150-500mm OS HSM DG lens,which I had with my Canon camera`s-great lens and hard to beat for the price.
Intial thoughts on the Nikon,is the body is quite small compared to the 7D,and loads of buttons in weird places,and a bit tricky to set up the camera.Still it`s early days,and have only taken a few test shots so far,due to the crappy UK weather!
As I mentioned the ergonomics of the Nikon are a bit odd,but then it`s a learning process I suppose,after using Canon for so long.

So have I gone to the dark side? :))

The Emperor has swayed you to the Dark side.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

I've always preferred Nikon (having had a number of entry to mid-level DSLRs). The only thing that annoys me is the endless menus and sub menus you have to go through to use some of the more specialised functions.

The D7100 is pretty straight-forward compared to older models which could be really baffling. An original D80 I had used the auto function to store your custom settings, which got a few sniggers when people saw me shooting in auto {grumpy}
A million great ideas...

I liked Nikon when looking at them, but the Canon lenses swayed me in that direction and I'm about to get my 4th L series.
