Soyuz Malfunction, Crew Safe

A capsule carrying the two crew members of a Russian Soyuz rocket that malfunctioned on lift-off has landed safely in Kazakhstan.

Russian Cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and US astronaut Nick Hague are reported to be "in good condition", both Nasa and Russian media said.

I had no idea prior to this morning that there was a abort mode, or whatever, on Soyuz launches.

Glad to hear they are both OK.

There are several different ones. Another pretty much identical abort happened in 1975 and there was another one sometime in the 80s where the booster blew on the pad and the escape tower was used. It wasn't an option this time as it had been jettisoned a few seconds before the problem occurred.
