So a single prop blade failed on the #2 engine, and at almost the same time the gearbox failed on the #3 engine causing it to lose it's prop altogether.

Out of the 360 degrees the #2 prop's blade could have gone, it chose to go into the upper fuselage. Out of the 360 degrees the #3 prop could have gone, it chose to go into the upper fuselage.

That seems like one helluva coincidence.

Do the props all spin the same direction on the C-130 or do they rotate opposite directions pending on what side of the fuselage they're on?

Idiotic question perhaps...but IIRC a Soviet aircraft did that...

They all spin in the same direction. The Airbus A400M has two spinning one way, the other two spin opposite.

You were probably thinking of the Tu-95. That one has contra-rotating dual-blade props:
