On the way back from a NATO-exercise in Hungary a US Blackhawk with seven "Military-members" on board striped a couple of trees during bad weather condition in Lower Austria and was forced to make an intermediate landing on a field in the Darkstoneforest because the cockpit as well as the back of the Blackhawk got damaged and needed to be repaired before the Helicopter was able to continue its flight to Germany.

No one got injured and the soldiers accepted the offer to stay overnight in the Mautern-casern/barracks.

The Blackhawk was guarded by the Austrian Mil.-Police as well as one US soldier. The US military attaché also travelled to Bergern, NÖ (location of the field).

Ripped half the tail feathers off an M model? That wasn't cheap.

The Black Hawk was able to continue its flight to Linz-Hörsching (Military and Civil Airport in Upper Austria).

The interesting part however is: The owner(farmer) of the field where the Blackhawk landed received a medal from the US-Army. Do they always have a medal with them ?

More likely it was a challenge/recognition coin.

It seems the reason for the landing after it striped the trees was that the Blackhawk was actually simply running out of fuel.... {crazy}
