RIP. Guy needed a wheel barrow for his brass balls. I enjoyed reading Broughton's "Thud Ridge" and "Going Downtown."

A warrior has earned his eternal rest.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

RIP indeed, Thud Driver...taking on MiGs with an F-105...damn. {thumbsup}

Not to mention staring down the barrel at SAM-2 sites and going toe to toe with them.

I love these old vets; they aren't afraid of nothing. Death? Meh...doesn't bother them at all. One vet my wife has as a patient...he once told her he was looking forward to death and going to Hell; he wanted to go several rounds with the Devil.

Sure he's an jokester...but I wouldn't doubt if most of them feel that way. A different breed, they are. We owe them a lot.

The citation doesn't full capture how crazy his engagement was:

It reads like real life Top Gun.
We sleep peacefully in our beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf
