Mriya pilot Dmytro Antonov on Hostomel and the second An-225 [Part 1]
For many years, Antonov Airlines was one of Ukraine’s great ambassadors. It is a subsidiary of the Antonov Company whose Soviet-era iteration, the Antonov Construction Bureau, manufactured some of the largest and most impressive aircraft in the world. As such, Antonov Airlines was tasked with operating those aircraft, and was admired by people who knew a thing or two about aviation.
However, the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine took a heavy toll on the company. Not only did it find itself cut off from the rest of the world, the carrier’s base at Hostomel Airport became one of the contested areas, and heavy battle raged there for more than a month. As a result, the world’s only Antonov An-225 Mriya was destroyed, along with many of the company’s other unique possessions.

The afterlife of retired aircraft: what are old planes turned into?
Around 16,000 commercial passenger and cargo aircraft have been retired worldwide in the past 35 years. Meanwhile, up to 700 jets each year are getting closer to the end of their lifespan. But where do these planes go after retirement? AeroTime investigates the afterlife of a retired aircraft.
Unlike cars, the lifespan of an aircraft is not determined by the distance flown during the years of active operations. And, even though age seems like a compelling way to define whether an aircraft remains suitable for flying, it is not the most accurate index. Many major aerospace manufacturers, including Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer and Gulfstream, usually measure the life expectancy of a plane based on various indicators, including performed takeoff and landing cycles, flight hours, flight frequency and maintenance hours.

Norwegian’s traffic figures for May showed that Norwegian had 1.6 million passengers, an increase of 16 percent compared to the previous month.

Swedish government to assume SAS debt for equity, will not inject additional capital
Today’s announcement regarding the intention of the Swedish Government to support the conversion of its debt holdings into SAS equity is an important step toward the success of the transformation plan, SAS FORWARD.
The full implementation of SAS FORWARD, including the burden sharing components, will allow SAS to become a competitive player in the European airline industry, thereby attracting the necessary new equity capital to restore its liquidity, deleverage its balance sheet and invest in a new fleet of aircraft.

JetBlue offers enhanced deal to acquire Spirit Airlines
JetBlue (JBLU) has once again stepped up its efforts to win over Spirit Airlines (S64) (SAVE) by offering an enhanced deal, claiming that its proposal is "superior" to the offer made by rival Frontier.
The New York-based airline has offered to pay a $350 million fee to Spirit if the merger is blocked due to competition concerns, JetBlue (JBLU) said in a statement dated June 6, 2022. The airline has also agreed to pre-pay $150 million “promptly following Spirit shareholder approval” to proceed with JetBlue (JBLU).
“JetBlue (JBLU) would bring the best of Spirit’s people and culture to a combined airline as it seeks to create a national low-fare challenger to the Big Four,” JetBlue (JBLU) outlined in the statement.
