NTSB to help investigate Sriwijaya Air 737 crash
The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will send a team of experts to help investigate the Sriwijaya Air 737 crash in Indonesia.
The NTSB will send a US accredited representative and three other investigators to Jakarta, Indonesia. The team has expertise in operations, human performance, airplane structures and systems.

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker indicated the airline’s future plans with its Airbus A380 fleet, stating that going forward, the airline will only operate half of its current Super Jumbo fleet.
Al Baker once again reiterated the efficiency of its twin-engine wide-body aircraft when compared to the Airbus A380.

DHL Express ordered an additional eight new Boeing 777 freighters to expand its international network and to modernize its aircraft fleet.
DHL Express placed an order for eight new Boeing 777 freighters as a part of its intercontinental air network expansion plan to meet the globally growing demand for cargo, read the company’s announcement on January 12, 2021.

Jet2 cuts all operations until late March 2021
British low-cost airline Jet2 decided to extend the suspension of its whole air operations until late March 2021. The air carrier announced the prolonged flight termination was the result of the ongoing uncertainty and newly-introduced travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Congo Airways orders two Embraer E195-E2s
On January 13, 2021, African carrier Congo Airways ordered a pair of new Embraer E195-E2 jets. The new E195-E2s will join two previously ordered E190-E2s.
Embraer plans to deliver the pair ofE195-E2 aircraft in 2022. The manufacturer and Congo Airways will continue to review the potential to anticipate the beginning of the deliveries.

US to require negative COVID-19 test for international arrivals
Proof of a negative COVID-19 test will be required for all international arrivals into the United States, effective January 26, 2021.
On January 12, 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the new testing requirements that will apply to all passengers, including US citizens arriving from abroad.

Brussels Airport (BRU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SpiceJet for the provision of seamless transportation for the COVID-19 vaccine.

USAF orders 12 more KC-46 tankers from Boeing
Boeing received an additional order for 12 KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling and transport aircraft from the United States Air Force (USAF). It is the sixth batch of aircraft ordered by the United States. The contract of $1.7 billion will bring Boeing’s backlog of the KC-46 to 79 aircraft.

New Chinese combat drone WJ-700 performs maiden flight
China performed a successful first flight test of its WJ-700 Falcon, a new jet-powered combat and reconnaissance drone. According to the state news agency Xinhua, the test ocurred in the early morning of January 11, 2020, at an undisclosed location. Both the aircraft and its control systems operated as planned, the report indicated.
