Indonesian Navy recovers engine from Sriwijaya Air wreckage
One of the engines was recovered from the wreckage of the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 that crashed in the Java Sea with 62 people on board on January 9, 2021. Now that the flight data recorders have been located, rescue operations continue to try and retrieve them.

Cat Found In LaGuardia Ceiling 11 Days After Going Missing
A New York City kitty has become something of a Christmas miracle, having been found 11 days after going missing at an airport. Muji, a rescue cat, had escaped from her owner Taylor Le while at a TSA checkpoint before a flight to California. Having spent Christmas and New Year in the ceiling at La Guardia airport, the cat was finally trapped on January 4th and reunited with her owner.

Catering Truck Gets Stuck Under Air Canada CRJ900 Lifting Plane
An unfortunate incident in Canada played out on Friday as an Air Canada CRJ900’s nose was lifted in Regina after a catering truck became stuck underneath the aircraft. The flight was delayed, but the aircraft was able to depart after the incident. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.

Qatar Airways resumes flights to Saudi Arabia, gets Bahrain clearance
Qatar Airways is set to resume operations in Saudi Arabia after the country has restored diplomatic ties with Qatar’s home country by signing the Al Ula Declaration, a solidarity and stability agreement between Saudi Arabia and five other countries of the Gulf region. The airline has already made some changes to its flight schedule by adding renewed Saudi Arabian destinations.

Italy’s startup EGO Airways to launch operations in March
The new airline EGO Airways is planning to launch point-to-point domestic routes in Italy beginning March 2021.
On January 7, 2021, EGO Airways started ticket sales for travel starting from March 2021. EGO Airways is planning to operate on underserved routes. It will offer service to Forli Airport (FRL), Florence Airport (FLR), Catania Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), Parma Airport (PMF), Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI), and Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF).

SIA flight crew to wear tracking devices on layovers
To minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections, Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) (SIA) flight crew will have to wear location tracking devices during their layovers abroad.
During the layovers, SIA’s flight crew is already barred from interacting with locals and each other. These precautions, adopted by the airline, are in place to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection among the flight crew, reported the Straits Times.

Air Operations Resume In Madrid After Storm Crippled Airport
Overnight, from January 10th to 11th, Madrid’s Barajas Airport managed to resume flight operations after an intense and rare snowstorm blanketed the city and suspended hundreds of flights. The airport managed to clear two runways, but the frost had delayed restoration efforts. A Twitter post from Spanish airport operator Aena indicated that on 20:03, January 10th, the first flight was able to depart.

Modified Avenger drones to be used for Skyborg testing
General Atomics announced that two of their Avenger drones will be used in 2021 and 2022 to test teaming with fighter jets.
They will be fitted with Skyborg System Design Agent (SDA) software and other payloads, which will enable them to exchange information with and be controlled from manned aircraft.

French Air Force receives first modernized Mirage 2000D
The French Air Force received the first modernized Mirage 2000D on January 7, 2020. The aircraft will now be put to the test by the Military Air Expertise Center (CEAM) in Mont-de-Marsan Air Base 118, in southwestern France.
