American proceeds with 19,000 furloughs, asks for PSP extension
American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) said it will proceed with its plan to furlough 19,000 employees but will stop the process if the U.S. government extends COVID-19 relief aid.
As the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) deadline comes to an end on October 1, 2020, so does the payroll aid for the Airline’s employees.

Qatar Airways appears to be seriously betting on its Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleets for long-haul operations. AirAsia Japan to be shut down next week ?
AirAsia Japan, one of many subsidiaries of AirAsia, an Asia-Pacific-based low-cost carrier is on the verge of being shut down as the company is strapped for cash.

Next step for struggling Norwegian Air Shuttle: nationalization ?
The government of Norway considers taking a stake of Norwegian Air as a measure to temporarily nationalize the air carrier while it is still unable to claw its way out of a financial pit of despair.
In a meeting with officials of Norway’s government, Jacob Schram, the Chief Executive of Norwegian Air, reportedly revealed that the airline would need additional financial support to survive the winter season.

Air Canada Ordering Rapid COVID-19 Testing Kits
Air Canada is in the process of placing an order for 25,000 rapid COVID-19 testing kits. The tests can provide results within minutes. The airline had previously partnered with McMaster Health Labs (MHL) and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) to study the effectiveness of the kits when diagnosing COVID-19 in passengers.
