Dutch Navy helicopter crashes in Caribbean Sea, two killed
An NH90 helicopter stationed on the Royal Netherlands Navy HNLMS Groningen patrol vessel crashed into the sea near the island of Aruba. The pilot and the tactical coordinator were killed. Two other crew members were rescued.

Data extraction of Ukraine Flight 752 shot down by Iran begins
After months of dithering, Iran sent to France the flight recorders of the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 which was accidentally shot down shortly after taking off from Tehran in January 2020. Data extraction by the French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) is about to begin.

Ex-Mexicana Boeing 727 Burns Down In Blaze
In what will probably go down as arson, an ex-Mexicana Boeing 727-200 was set ablaze on Sunday, practically destroying the entire aircraft. The incident occurred at around 20:00 in Laguna del Carpintero in the heart of Tampico, a city in the southeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas.

Garuda Indonesia Fires Pilots That Were Arrested For Drug Use
A Garuda Indonesia pilot got the chop last week following his arrest in a drug raid in Jakarta. The pilot, who also flew for Garuda’s low-cost offshoot, Citilink, was picked up by South Jakarta Police on July 6. Following that unfortunate incident, Garuda has moved swiftly to terminate the pilot’s employment.

EAG Launches 70-Seat Hybrid-electric Regional Aircraft
Electric Aviation Group (EAG) has announced plans for a 70-seat hybrid-electric regional airliner, which the UK group says will be ready to enter service in 2028. The Bristol, UK-based start-up unveiled its design on July 20 to coincide with the opening of the FIA Connect event.

US planemaker Boeing famously commandeered an employee parking lot to store its grounded 737 MAX aircraft last year. Now, it seems that another model is beginning to cause the same headache. With customers unwilling or unable to receive deliveries of their new 787 Dreamliners, Boeing has an estimated 50 undelivered widebodies around its facilities. It seems to be running out of space to park these too.

Qatar Airways' A380 Fleet Currently Not Commercially Viable
While Qatar Airways has made no direct plans for the retirement for its fleet of A380s, it has deemed then commercially unviable and environmentally unjustifiable to operate for the foreseeable future. In a statement issued late last week, CEO Akbar Al Baker said the airline’s superjumbos would not return to service before demand “returns to appropriate levels.”

752 was the flight number (PS752), the aircraft was a 738 (UR-PSR).
