Dornier Seastar 'New Generation' Completes First Flight
Dornier's prototype (SN1003) of its New Generation Seastar CD2 turboprop amphibious aircraft achieved its first flight on March 28 at the company’s headquarters at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, Germany. The aircraft received approval to start test flights on March 19 from EASA and Germany’s LBA, almost a year behind its original schedule.

Boeing Extends Production Halt in Washington State
Boeing has extended the temporary suspension of production activities at its Puget Sound area and Moses Lake sites until further notice, the company announced Sunday. The decision stems from the company’s own assessment of the spread of Covid-19 in Washington state and further recommendations from government health authorities, as well as considerations centered on the reliability of its supply chain.

IAI ships first cargo-converted 737-800s following certification
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has begun deliveries of the first Boeing 737-800BDSF converted freighters, following certification by Israeli and US authorities.
The approval, which was announced on 6 April, enables IAI to become the first company to have approved conversions for both the -800 and the smaller -700.

Virgin Australia closes New Zealand crew base
Virgin Australia has closed its New Zealand flight crew base, a move their union says affects around 600 jobs.
The E tū union said in a 4 April statement that the carrier emailed staff the previous night telling them that the closure was effective immediately.

Ethiopian Airlines has become the latest airline to ask employees to take unpaid leave. The request comes as Ethiopia reports its first death from COVID-19. The airline is thought to be terminating the contracts of temporary employees. Permanent staff members are being asked to take all their annual leave and up to 90 days of unpaid leave.

On Sunday, American Airlines announced it is drastically slashing its flights to New York. Down from 271 daily flights in April last year to a mere 13, the dramatically reduced bare-bones schedule will operate until the 6th of May.

El Al Likely To Close In Days Without Government Help
The flag carrier of Israel, El Al, is “likely to close” if the government does not provide financial assistance in the coming days, airline chairman Eli Defes warned on Monday. The airline has suspended all regular passenger traffic but is still operating some humanitarian flights.

Gulf Air Resumes Operations From Bahrain
Bahrain based carrier Gulf Air has restarted operations for transit passengers between Europe and the Philippines. Passengers traveling from London, Paris and Frankfurt will be allowed to transit through Bahrain International Airport in order to continue onwards to Manila. However, passengers traveling on Gulf Air will not be allowed into Bahrain.

Heathrow support NHS during COVID19
Heathrow has donated 6,000 FFP3 respiratory face masks in the last week, to NHS teams working at Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Hillingdon Hospital. The airport has reached out to other local frontline organisations to offer more stock of the FFP3 masks, recognising the ongoing need for key health workers across the UK to have access to specific personal protection equipment (PPE), and following confirmation from Public Health England (PHE) that key airport workers do not currently require these masks.

On April 2, the U.S. Air Force and Boeing reached agreement on two key aspects currently affecting the KC-46A Pegasus tanker program.
