FAA approves Boeing 737 distress tracking device
Aircraft tracking system provider Blue Sky Network on Nov. 20 announced FAA certification of its autonomous distress tracking (ADT) device on Boeing 737 airliners.
Blue Sky Network said its HawkEye ADT, granted approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML-STC) authorization for the 737 type, is the first device to comply with an upcoming international recommended standard for autonomous distress tracking.

A330neo included in latest Trent engine inspection order
Airbus A330neo operators have been included in a new European directive ordering inspections of intermediate pressure compressor shaft assemblies on Rolls-Royce Trent engines for the Boeing 787.
The directive follows the discovery cracks in the front air seal of the shaft assembly during stripping of a flight-test powerplant.

​Boeing continues autonomy work in Australia
Boeing has conducted autonomous teamed flights using small, unmanned jet aircraft in Australia.
The work involved two small aircraft and is part of its efforts to develop its Airpower Teaming System (ATS), says the company.

EasyJet posts profit decline; firms 12 Airbus A320neos
UK LCC easyJet used its full-year results conference to announce a series of strategic moves, including the launch of easyJet Holidays, two environmental initiatives and the firming of purchase rights on 12 more Airbus A320neos.
For the year ended Sept. 30, 2019, easyJet’s passenger numbers rose 8.6% to 96.1 million, mirrored by 8.3% revenue growth to £6.4 billion ($8.3 billion).

US startup Avatar Airlines considers ad-based ULCC model
A startup airline is looking to disrupt the low-cost domestic air travel market in the US through an innovative business model that would rely on advertising revenue to offset rock-bottom airfares. Florida-based Avatar Airlines submitted an application with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for a certificate of public convenience and necessity on Nov. 19, the first step in the process of becoming a Part 121 scheduled air carrier.

Aircalin returns A330neo to Airbus, citing cabin odor
Aircalin, a carrier based in Noumea, in the French territory of New Caledonia, has stopped operating one of its two Airbus A330neos after reporting repeated odor issues in the cabin.
The aircraft landed Nov. 18 at Toulouse airport, according to tracking website flightradar24. There, Airbus is performing “more exhaustive inspections,” an Aircalin spokesperson said. The troubleshooting process had started in Noumea.

South Pacific-based Fiji Airways presented its first of two Airbus A350-900 XWBs during the delivery ceremony at the Airbus facility in Toulouse. Fiji Airways has become the first airline from the South Pacific region to take delivery of the A350, which will operate on routes to Los Angeles and Sydney. The carrier is also evaluating new nonstop services either to Chicago or Dallas from Fiji.

TAP deploys A321LRs for transatlantic expansion
Portuguese carrier TAP is to open new transatlantic services with its long-range Airbus A321LR fleet, operating to Montreal, Boston via the Azores, and a new Brazilian destination.
It will take its North American network to 11 destinations with the six-times-weekly Montreal link.

AirAsia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321neo from an order for 353.
Configured with 236 seats in a single-class layout, the aircraft will be deployed on routes from Kuala Lumpur to points such as Bangkok, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Shenzhen, and Singapore, says Airbus.

American's flight attendants weigh Boeing suit over Max grounding
American Airlines' flight attendants union will determine this week if it has sufficient grounds to sue Boeing for damages resulting from the March 2019 grounding of 737 Max aircraft.
“The voting board of directors of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA) has expressed an interest in exploring the possibility of a lawsuit to seek damages from Boeing," states Lori Bassani, APFA's national president.

Guangzhou, Shenzhen airports eye expansion
Looking to further tap into the Greater Bay Area (GBA) growth, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and Shenzhen Bao’an Airport have announced ambitious expansion plans to increase the airports’ handling capacity and enhance their international standings.
The GBA consists airports of Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau and Zhuhai, and collectively handled about 200 million passengers in 2018.

Autonomous EV trials to take place at Dallas and Winnipeg airports
Semi- and fully-autonomous trials of personal driving EVs are to take place at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) as part of an initiative to further the current Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) model worldwide.
After arriving at the airport, travellers with reduced mobility will be able to navigate their way through the airport to the gate with the personal autonomous EV, and once arrived, hit ‘return’ to allow the EV to return itself to the original docking station.

Sheremetyevo Airport Terminal C redevelopment approved by FATA
The Federal Air Transport Agency (FATA) has approved the commission for a new and improved Terminal C at Sheremetyevo International Airport, which will be scheduled to open to the public during January 2020.
The renovated terminal is part of the Northern Terminal Complex, designed to manage international flights. The space totals at 127,374m2  and handles approximately 20 million passengers a year.

​US pegs New Zealand C-130J deal at $1.4 billion
The US Defence Department has pegged the price of five Lockheed Martin C-130J tactical transports for New Zealand at $1.4 billion.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) statement follows Wellington’s announcement in June that it favoured the USA-built type to replace its five C-130Hs, and that it would request pricing information from Washington.

​PICTURES: China’s newest aircraft carrier docks at Hainan
China’s second aircraft carrier has docked at Yulin Naval base at the southern tip of Hainan Island, amid media speculation that it will soon be commissioned into Peoples’ Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) service.
Satellite images provided by Maxar Technologies show the Type-001A carrier at pier side. Seven Shenyang J-15 fighters are visible on the deck, as are four helicopters.
