Germany plans to fly electric regional aircraft demonstrator in 2020 German aerospace center DLR is planning a regional-size electric propulsion flight demonstrator. British Airways recovering after weekend cancellation debacle British Airways (BA) experienced another public relations fiasco over the weekend, after thousands of passengers were wrongly told their flights had been canceled. The debacle occurred following the Aug. 23 announcement by the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) that it plans to strike in pursuit of a pay claim on Sept. 9, 10 and 27. Link
Oil suppliers suspend sale of jet fuel to Air India Indian oil companies have been restricting fuel sales to Air India because the carrier has been missing payments for several months. Three oil companies—including Indian Oil Corp (IOC).—suspended sale of jet fuel to Air India at six domestic airports from Aug. 22, because of accumulated overdue payments. The suspension also applies to fuel for Air India subsidiary Alliance Air. Air India normally uplifts about 250,000 liters of fuel per day from these six airports. Link
Cathay warns against planned union protests at operations hub Cathay Pacific has warned its employees against taking part in a planned protest at its main headquarters on 26 August. This was because an injunction order obtained by the Airport Authority Hong Kong to restrict protests at Hong Kong International Airport also covered the nearby Cathay City, which is the airlines main operations hub. London Southend Airport expands European network London Southend Airport is steadily expanding its route network into central and eastern Europe, with LCCs Ryanair and Wizz Air both announcing services from the UK airport to Bucharest. It is the first time Wizz Air has operated from Southend. Link
UK airports to roll out new 3D baggage scanners by 2022 The UK government announced Aug. 25 that new-generation 3D scanners should be installed at all major airports by December 2022, promising faster security checks. The new scanners will be able to scan baggage from multiple angles, giving security staff a clearer idea of the contents of carry-on bags. Link

Elbit To Provide EW Suite to Portuguese KC-390s The suite includes radar and laser warning systems, an infrared (IR) missile warning systems, a countermeasures dispensing system, DIRCM (Direction IR countermeasures) and an active electronic countermeasures system, says Elbit. The deal is subject to a Portuguese government approval process, says Elbit. The cost of the deal was not disclosed. Link
Indian Air Force Takes Final C-17 The Indian Air Force has received its 11th and final Boeing C-17 strategic airlifter, in the last delivery of the type. With the arrival of the last aircraft there are 275 C-17s in service globally, says Boeing. Link
