Star chiefs admire CSeries on first passenger flight
Chief executives from several Star Alliance member carriers admired the Bombardier CSeries, aboard the first passenger flight aboard the aircraft. Carsten Spohr, chief executive of the Lufthansa Group, called the flight on 3 June a “very special day” that was the culmination of a decade of work between Bombardier and the group, whose Swiss subsidiary is the launch customer of the CS100.

Emirates closes on A350/787 order decision
Emirates is finalising an order for either the Airbus A350 or Boeing 787 but does not expect to be in a position to complete a deal in time for July's Farnborough air show. The evaluation has now been running for some two years, and airline boss Tim Clark says he's "still at it", adding that "we haven't made a decision" and that he doesn't expect one by Farnborough.

Air Canada debuts Montreal-Denver route
Air Canada rolled out direct service between Montreal, Quebec, and Denver. "This new flight will boost our international portfolio and strengthen our city's economic ties with Canada," said Kim Day, CEO of Denver International Airport.

American Airlines rolls out new routes
American Airlines launched daily nonstop service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Bozeman, Mont., last week. The carrier also launched 19 other routes over a three-day period from June 2 - 4.

American Airlines inked an agreement with ViaSat to equip its fleet of Boeing 737 Max aircraft with Wi-Fi.

American Airlines’ frequent-flier program to be based on price, not miles
American Airlines Group Inc. said Monday it will change its frequent-flier program to award miles based on ticket price rather than distance flown, becoming the largest carrier to shift its loyalty program to favor bigger spenders. The top U.S. airline by traffic AAL, +1.46% said that its AAdvantage program, which has about 100 million members, will make the change on August 1. Starting then, customers who have no status in the plan will receive 5 miles for each dollar spent on tickets, excluding government taxes and fees. The number of miles awarded will increase based on the passenger’s elite status, with the lower “gold” members receiving 7 miles to a dollar and top-tier “executive platinum” fliers getting 11 miles per dollar spent.

Emirates downbeat on chances of early A380neo launch
Emirates Airline president Tim Clark does not envisage any quick decision from Airbus regarding the launch of a re-engined A380 and is more concerned about the long-term prospects for the current variant. Speaking during the IATA AGM in Dublin, Clark said discussions between Emirates and Airbus regarding the A380neo had "kinda lapsed, I'm afraid".

Jin Air expands interline agreements to extend Asian reach
Korean low-cost carrier (LCC) Jin Air has signed agreements with Hawaii’s regional airline Island Air, Cambodia Angkor Air and Lao flag carrier Lao Airlines to extend its interline reach into Cambodia, Hawaii and Laos. Jin Air, a Korean Air subsidiary, said the move would “expand and reinforce our flight routes with international carriers.”

Passengers, Crew Injured In Turbulence On Malaysian Flight
A Malaysia Airlines flight from London to Kuala Lumpur hit severe turbulence on Sunday, with some passengers and crew suffering minor injuries. Malaysia Airlines flight MH1, carrying 378 passengers and crew, experienced "a brief moment of severe turbulence" over the Bay of Bengal, the company said in a statement.

Russian authorities cancel Orenair’s AOC
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, has canceled the air operator’s certificate (AOC) of Aeroflot Group subsidiary Orenair from May 26. The decision was made at the request of the Orenburg-based airline, authorities said in a June 1 statement. Aeroflot announced in October 2015 it would combine three of its regional subsidiaries—Rossiya Airlines, Donavia and Orenair—into one company under the Rossiya Airlines brand.

Sichuan Airlines orders 15 A320s
Chengdu-based Sichuan Airlines has ordered 15 Airbus A320 aircraft, valued at CNY9.6 billion ($1.46 billion) at list prices, to meet the fast-growing Chinese market demand. A delivery schedule has not been released.

Chinese Company To Buy Germany's Hahn Airport
Shanghai Yiqian Trading is to buy Hahn airport in Germany to secure a base for food exports as well as passengers heading to and from Asia. The planned purchase of an 82.5 percent stake in Hahn from federal state owners for a low double-digit million euro amount shows China's aim of recreating Silk Road trade links between Europe and Asia that have already led to some big-ticket transactions.
