Airbus patent application details double-decker seating
Airbus has filed a patent for a seating design that includes double-decker seats. "In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin," Airbus wrote in the application for the patent.

Airbus Ends Bombardier Discussions Over CSeries
Airbus has called off talks with Bombardier over propping up the troubled CSeries jet, leaving the Canadian plane maker facing dwindling options to keep alive its dream of competing in the aerospace big league. The latest blow to Bombardier, which has been trying to shore up its shrinking cash reserves for months, came after a report that Bombardier had made an offer to Airbus.

Rolls-Royce To Encourage Competition In Engine Repairs
Rolls-Royce plans to introduce more competition into the engine overhaul network for its Trent engines, a senior executive said. The move addresses demands from aircraft investors who have called for an independent second-hand market to help them release the value of assets as jets get older, bringing it closer to the free market for the most popular narrow-body jets.

AirAsia Shares Up On Report It May Be Taken Private
AirAsia shares rose to their highest level in nearly two weeks after a report that its founders are sounding out investors to take the company private. The stock closed 5.6 percent up at MYR1.32 ringgit per share, after briefly hitting MYR1.35 earlier in the day.

Air Canada traffic soared 10.1% in Sept.
Air Canada reported a 10.1% increase in total system traffic for September on a year-over-year basis. Air Canada also boosted its capacity by 11.5% for the month, as compared to the same month last year.

Cebu Pacific regional Cebgo goes all turboprop
Filipino low-cost carrier (LCC) Cebu Pacific’s regional arm, Cebgo, will use ATR 72s on all routes and will transfer its remaining Airbus A320 aircraft to the parent operation. Cebu Pacific bought Cebgo, formerly named Tigerair Philippines, in March 2014, and has seen what Cebgo CEO Michael Shau described as a “significant turnaround” from its previous 2013 last quarter loss of $9 million.

Delta adds fare basis code structure, product benefits
Delta will introduce a new Fare Basis Code structure designed to make its suite of branded products easier to sell, and will provide expanded corporate incentive options. The new codes will apply in selected U.S. and Canadian markets beginning later this month.

Fastjet Zimbabwe secures air operator's certificate
African low-cost carrier fastjet has been granted a Zimbabwean air operator’s certificate (AOC) and will launch operations on Oct. 28. The AOC marks a key milestone in fastjet's plan to become a pan-African low-cost carrier. Fastjet Zimbabwe will be the group’s second airline, joining fastjet Tanzania, which launched Airbus A319 operations in November 2012.

Airbus delivers Finnair's first A350
Airbus has formally handed over a first A350 to the widebody twinjet type's first European operator, Finnair. The Helsinki-based Oneworld carrier has ordered a total of 19 baseline A350-900s. Three more are to be delivered by year-end, seven in 2016-17, and the other eight by 2023, Finnair says.

Finnair Traffic Performance in September 2015
In September, Finnair's overall capacity measured in Available Passenger Kilometres grew by 2.5 per cent and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 4.4 per cent year-on-year. The passenger load factor increased by 1.4%-points to 81.6 per cent.

Hawaiian Airlines, Inc., a subsidiary of Hawaiian Holdings, Inc., has announced its system-wide traffic statistics for the month of September, third quarter, and year to date and updated its expectations for certain third quarter financial metrics.

S7 Airlines to carry Transaero passengers
Russia’s S7 Airlines will carry passengers with Transaero tickets, it said in a statement. Transaero had to stop ticket sales from Oct. 1 after a deal with Aeroflot failed. ussia’s Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov said Aeroflot is coordinating Transaero flight operations. Aeroflot plans to carry Transaero passengers through Dec. 15, 2015, or provide refund.

SAS traffic figures - September 2015
-Scheduled traffic (RPK) was up 0.6% and the capacity (ASK) was reduced by 0.1%.
-The load factor improved by 0.6 p.u. to 77.2%.
-SAS carried 2.6 million scheduled passengers in September, down 0.6%.
-The currency adjusted yield and PASK were up 1.2% and 0.3% respectively in August. The nominal yield and PASK were up 3.3% and 2.5% respectively.

Southwest to launch 6 international destinations this month
Southwest Airlines plans to add six international destinations on Oct. 15 from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston. The carrier built a $156 million international terminal at the airport for expanded flights. Southwest is also constructing an international terminal in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Southwest exec discusses NextGen avionics updates
Tim Leonard, director of flight operations and compliance and operations at Southwest Airlines, said the carrier has updated its avionics for NextGen. "Southwest will continue to advocate for and work toward evolving technology, standards, procedures, and the regulatory framework needed to allow for greater utilization of NextGen flight procedures," he said.

Thai Lion Air gets IOSA approval
Thailand’s low-cost carrier (LCC) Thai Lion Air has achieved IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification following an assessment of its operational management and control systems. Thai Lion Air is the only Thai LCC to be granted IOSA registry status. Bangkok Airways and flag carrier Thai Airways International are the only full-service carriers to hold that level of certification in Thailand.

Russia begins Transaero audit; cites safety concerns
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, has started an unscheduled audit at Transaero Airlines due to the deterioration of its financial situation. Rosaviatsia said an unsatisfactory financial state can create additional safety risks. “Transaero’s lack of resources does not allow the airline to keep up the aircraft worthiness, to provide MRO service for numerous fleets consisting of different types of aircraft,” Rosaviatsia said in a statement. Rosaviatsia added Transaero had a debt of RUB1 billion ($16 million) for air navigation services.

Aug. traffic at Dallas Love Field up 79% over last year
The number of airline passengers passing through Texas' Dallas Love Field jumped 79% year-over-year in August, to 1.3 million people. The airport served 725,890 passengers in August 2014.

The Polish defence ministry will soon start the next phase of technical dialogue with combat helicopter manufacturers under its Project "Kruk", which seeks replacements for its Mil Mi-24 fleet.

US clears GA-ASI to export MQ-9s to Spain
The US State Department has cleared General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to export four MQ-9 unmanned air systems to Spain, says the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) in a notice to Congress on 6 October.
