Retired EasyJet pilot killed in a light aircraft crash in Kent, UK
Retired EasyJet pilot Angus Buchanan was killed in a light aircraft crash on a field near Headcorn Aerodrome between Maidstone and Ashford in Kent.
He was a member of the Stampe Formation display team and was reportedly practising for the upcoming air show season.
An eye witness said that he was flying one of the three bi-planes, saying it appeared to “have performed a stall turn and lost control”.

Israel-Palestine: flights to Tel Aviv diverted over fear of rocket strikes
Flights to Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion International Airport (TLV) are rerouted until further notice, Israeli airport authorities announced on May 13, 2021. Planes will be diverted to Ramon Airport (ETM) in Eilat, southern Israel.

Antonov An-124 freighter exceeds runway in São Paulo
An Antonov An-124 suffered a runway excursion at Guarulhos Airport (GRU) in São Paulo, Brazil, early on May 11, 2021.
The plane, registered UR-82007 and belonging to Antonov Airlines, was operating flight ADB3829 from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) United States with a stopover at Paramaribo Zanderij International Airport (PDB) in Suriname. The freighter was transporting 60 tons of medical aid to help the fight against COVID-19. The flight was an initiative from the US Department of State.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin: Russia will start mass production of the Irkut MC-21
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that Russia will begin mass production of new civil aircraft of domestic design. He did this in his speech to the State Duma with an annual report on the work of the government. It is planned to mass-produce aircraft MC-21, Il-114-300. All these samples can be seen at the XV International Aviation and Space Salon. MС-21 will be presented for the first time with domestic PD-14 engines.

FAA orders reinforcement of Boeing 777 engine after failure
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will order the structural reinforcement of the engine cowling on Boeing 777-200 aircraft equipped with Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines. The measure follows the engine failure of a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 over Denver, on February 20, 2021.

Boeing gets greenlight from FAA for the 737 MAX electric fix
Boeing received a green light from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft electric problem fix, which had temporarily grounded about 100 737 MAX aircraft worldwide. The FAA reportedly approved Boeing service bulletins and instructions for fixes of the affected Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

SmartLynx Airlines Malta to add 5 Airbus A330 freighters
SmartLynx Airlines Malta has announced an important addition to its Airbus fleet. Currently operated Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, the fleet will be joined by Airbus A330 aircraft type with a goal to become leaders of long-haul market.
5 Airbus A330 aircraft will be modified to Zero LOPA by removing passenger seats and preparing aircraft for cargo flights. The planes are planned to be added to SmartLynx Airlines’ fleet during May and June.

CMA CGM AIR CARGO is adding three new destinations: Dubai, Beirut and Istanbul. They will complement its existing services to and from Liège, Chicago, New York and Atlanta.

Wizz Air expands in Italy
Wizz Air has announced a third aircraft in Catania with new routes to Turin, Santorini (July 3) , Heraklion (July 8), Prague (July 3), Tel Aviv (July 4) starting in July and Abu Dhabi on September 21.
This will bring the total number of routes from Catania to 29.

Taiwan’s newly founded airline STARLUX Airlines, with its very first flights to Macau, Penang and Danang on January 23, 2020 last year, officially launched its inaugural flight flying between Ho Chi Minh City and Taipei today (May 13).

While others halt, El Al plans to operate special flights in & out of Israel
While other airlines have temporarily canceled flights to Israel due to the ongoing upheaval in the region, Israel’s flag carrier El Al plans to operate special flights.
A number of American and European air carriers, including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) as well as British Airways, Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA), Wizz Air, Iberia, and Virgin Atlantic have halted all their scheduled operations to Tel Aviv, Israel. The air carriers decided to avoid operating in the region due to the ongoing conflict.

Alaska to expand its fleet with 13 Boeing 737 MAX, 17 Embraer 175
On May 12, 2021, Alaska Airlines announced that it would add 13 Boeing 737 MAX and Embraer E175 aircraft to its fleet, as part of the expansion plan.
In a statement, Alaska Airlines said it would need more aircraft across the Group’s subsidiaries to meet a growing domestic demand, which, according to the carrier, would return to pre-pandemic levels by 2022.

France to test V-MAX hypersonic glider in coming months
Florence Parly, Minister of the Armed Forces, confirmed that France would carry out the maiden flight of its hypersonic glider, the V-MAX (Véhicule Manoeuvrant Expérimental), in the coming months.
In 2019, France contracted ArianeGroup as project manager of the V-MAX program, aimed at developing a hypersonic glider demonstrator. Hypersonic gliders use a boost-glide launch system: first, a rocket propels the weapon, before the payload glides to its target at hypersonic speed.
