GE delivers first compliant GE9X engine for Boeing 777X
GE Aviation has delivered the first flight-compliant GE9X engine to Boeing, marking the restart of preparations for 777-9 flight tests. The engine, which reportedly arrived at Boeing’s Everett, Washington state, facility on an Antonov An-124 freighter Oct 18, incorporates improvements to fix durability problems that were unearthed late in the test program during the summer.

Preparing for the long, long-haul
Everyone wants to fly longer, it seems. New aircraft and engine technologies are making ultra-long-haul flights feasible with widebodies like the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787.
These new direct international flights are truly long. Singapore Airlines is doing nonstops of around 19 hours between Singapore and New York Newark. Qantas is planning 20-hour flights from Sydney to London, New York and other cities.

Air Tahiti Nui sees benefits from fleet transition to 787-9s
Air Tahiti Nui (ATN) has completed the transition of its widebody fleet from Airbus A340s to Boeing 787-9s, and the carrier anticipates significant operational benefits from the switch.
ATN recently took delivery of the last of four 787s, which replaced its five A340s. The transition was achieved in 11 months, ATN GM-Pacific Daniel Eggenberger said at the Oct. 16-17 CAPA-Center for Aviation conference in Auckland.

Fastjet Mozambique to suspend operations Oct. 26
Fastjet Mozambique, one of the few remaining fastjet airlines, has announced plans to suspend flights at midnight on Oct. 26 because of stiff competition.
“The detrimental financial impact of ongoing supply and demand challenges means that suspending our Mozambique operations is the right course of action at this time.

​PICTURES: 787-10 helps Vietnam Airlines hit 100-aircraft mark
Vietnam Airlines has hit the 100-aircraft milestone with the delivery of a Boeing 787-10, its third example of the variant.
The airline celebrated the arrival of the aircraft - VN-A873, MSN60288 - with a ceremony at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, attended by deputy prime minister Truong Hoa Binh.

Detroit Airport trials non-ticketed visitors going beyond security
Visitors who do not hold a ticket will now be able to pass through security to the main body of Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
As part of a pilot programme, Detroit Metropolitan Airport will be allowing non-ticketed visitors to enter the post-security side of the McNamara and North terminals from 22 October 2019 until 5 January 2020.

Drone used for runway safety checks at Edmonton International Airport
A drone has been used for data collection at Edmonton Airport to predict when to conduct preventative maintenance on its runways.
The Microdrone md4-1000 drone was flown to collect Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) and imagery data of EIA’s runways. The data collected will be used to more accurately predict when to conduct preventative maintenance on runways, taxiways and aircraft handling aprons; enhancing safety.
