​Boeing to begin internal overhaul aimed at improving safety
Boeing is creating a new, internal safety division and altering engineers' reporting lines as part of a broad overhaul announced 30 September in the name of company-wide safety.
The changes mirror safety-related recommendations approved by Boeing's board of directors and released by the company last week.

PICTURE: First MA700 fuselage joined with wings
AVIC has joined the wings of the first MA700 turboprop with the main fuselage, as it moves to complete construction of the first static aircraft.
In its latest update, AVIC states that subsidiary company Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation had successfully completed this milestone in the type's development.

Icelandair to axe two US destinations
Icelandair is axing its US services to San Francisco and Kansas City next year, as part of a network restructuring.
The airline says it will discontinue the flights for its summer 2020 programme, citing "commercial reasons".

​PICTURES: Saudia welcomes first 787-10 to fleet
Saudia has marked the delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 with a ceremony at its base at Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International airport.
The GE Aviation GEnx-1B-powered 787-10, which joins Saudia's existing fleet of 13 GEnx-powered 787-9s, will play a key role in the airline's fleet and network expansion, it says.

Adria Airways ceases operations and files for bankruptcy
Slovenian flag carrier Adria Airways has filed for bankruptcy, after financial pressures led to days of disruption to its flight schedule.
The airline says it has filed with the Carniola district court.

Transavia pilots back Air France development plan
Transavia pilots have overwhelmingly voted to support a draft agreement regarding the development of the airline in co-operation with Air France.
The draft deal had been the subject of a 12 September referendum for the Transavia division of French pilots' union SNPL.

XL Airways France suspends operations
Leisure carrier XL Airways France has suspended all operations for several days, owing to financial problems.
The Paris-based airline says the suspension will run from 30 September to 3 October.

Thai Airways ordered to revise aircraft acquisition plan
Thai Airways International's board has ordered the management team to revise a proposed aircraft acquisition plan.
The carrier says that, following a board meeting on 24 September, it has been instructed to find a funding source that is "most appropriate for the current situation" and to submit the new plan within six months.

Troubled Adria fined for 'misleading' ticket sales
Adria Airways has twice been fined by Slovenia's consumer-protection regulator for selling tickets for flights it was unable to conduct over the last week.
Slovenia's market inspectorate says the airline, which is privately-owned, was selling tickets for 26-27 September flights despite these services being "uncertain" because the carrier had suspended all flights for 24-25 September.

​First SilkAir 737 Max 8 arrives in Alice Springs
A SilkAir Boeing 737 Max 8 has arrived in Alice Springs, Australia where it will be placed in storage, pending the type’s eventual return to service.
The aircraft, 9V-MBA, arrived during the morning of Monday 30 September, according to an industry source. It, along with SilkAir’s other five 737 Max 8s, has been in storage at Changi Airport since March following a global grounding after two fatal crashes that killed 346 people.

New carrier among options to replace Adria: prime minister
Slovenia's prime minister has hinted at a possible new carrier to replace Adria Airways, while refusing to offer financial support to the troubled airline as long as it remains under its current ownership.
Adria Airways is aiming to restore some of its depleted network on 30 September, having spent much of the last few days only operating its Frankfurt service.

Crashed Convair struck trees while low on approach
Preliminary findings into the Convair 440 freighter crash at Toledo Express airport earlier this month give further details of the accident sequence, but little indication as to the cause.
Operated by Ferreteria E Implementos San Francisco on a non-scheduled flight from Millington Memphis airport, the aircraft had been about 5nm southeast of Toledo when it was cleared for landing, in darkness, at 02:35 on 11 September.

Brandenburg airport stays on track after operational testing
Berlin Brandenburg airport's operator believes the October 2020 opening date for the much-delayed capital hub is still realistic following operational principle tests of Terminal 1.
The tests involve assessment of systemwide functioning of the airport and its safety mechanisms.

Knock-Ireland West airport opens refurbished runway
Ireland West Airport (Knock) has officially opened its new runway following a €11 million refurbishment designed and project managed by Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group.
The 2,400m runway – which is the third longest in the country – handles all flights at Ireland West Airport and is central to the airport’s vision to attract one million passengers per year.

USAF awards Boeing $2.6bn contract for 15 KC-46A tankers
The US Air Force (USAF) awarded Boeing a $2.63 billion contract for 15 KC-46A Pegasus aerial refuelling tankers.
The lot 5 production contract includes funds for KC-46A aircraft, as well as related product data, two spare engines, five wing refueling pod kits, initial spares, support equipment, “subscriptions and licenses,” the USAF says in a notice posted 27 September. The aircraft are expected to be finished by March 2023.

PICTURES: Viper, Venom star for USMC in Okinawa
Some names stick. Bell designates the latest incarnation of the venerable AH-1 attack helicopter as the AH-1Z Viper – sometimes referred to as the ‘Zulu’ in casual conversation. The most recent version of the UH-1, meanwhile, is the UH-1Y Venom.
While the Viper and Venom are thoroughly new rotorcraft, the marines of squadron HMLA-169 use the names their fathers and uncles used for the original AH-1s and UH-1s that served in the Vietnam War: Cobra and Huey.
