AirlinesAegean Airlines lifted by $84 million 3Q net income Aegean Airlines reported a third-quarter net income of €74.9 million ($84 million), up 11.6% from €67.1 million in 3Q 2015. The Greek carrier has quickly rebounded after slipping into the red in the first half of 2016, with a 1H net loss of €23.7 million, reversed from a net profit of €14.8 million in the year-ago half.

During January-October, the airline carried 498,177 tonnes across its international route network, up 29% YOY. In 2015, ABC’s carried volume reached 483,000 tonnes.

LinkNok Air widens 3Q lossThailand low-cost carrier (LCC) Nok Air reported a consolidated third-quarter net loss of THB1.1 billion ($30.2 million), deepened from a loss of THB652.6 million in the same period last year. Third-quarter passenger revenue was up 4.3% year-over-year, mostly because of the LCC’s international network expansion. However, in the much larger domestic operation, revenue fell 7% “to fit the existing pilot capacity,” the airline said. The overall revenue increase was lower than expected.
LinkSpring Airlines net profit falls 26% in 3QShanghai-based Spring Airlines posted a third-quarter net profit of CNY429.5 million ($64.4 million), down 26.3% over a net income of CNY582.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Third-quarter operating revenue increased 9.7% to CNY2.6 billion while operating expenses grew 20.6% year-over-year (YOY) to CNY2.2 billion in the quarter.
LinkSouthwest Airlines begins Cuba flightsDallas-based Southwest Airlines began scheduled commercial flights to Cuba Nov. 13 with the launch of 2X-daily service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) and Varadero, Cuba, a resort city 87 miles east of Havana. “Our employees have worked hard to open this route and a new chapter for people who want to connect with Cuba in ways that matter most to them,” Southwest VP-ground operations Steve Goldberg said.
