Spirit Aero Profit Rises On Higher Demand
Spirit AeroSystems reported a stronger quarterly profit and revenue, helped by strong demand for commercial aircraft. Net income rose to USD$181.9 million, from USD$153.6 million a year earlier. Revenue in Spirit's fuselage systems, which accounts for half its total revenue, rose 6.8 percent to USD$916.8 million in the first quarter ended April 2, driven by higher deliveries.

Aer Lingus Q1 Loss In Line With Last Year
Aer Lingus reported a first-quarter loss in line with last year, but said trends were positive and it was confident of growth, whether or not an IAG takeover goes ahead. For the three months ended March 31, when fewer customers fly, Aer Lingus reported an underlying operating loss of EUR€48.4 million, little changed from the EUR€48.5 million loss last year.

American to offer service from Charlotte, N.C., to Burlington, Vt.
American Airlines announced they will be adding a new, non-stop flight from Burlington to Charlotte, North Carolina. A press release says the new service will launch on August 18, 2015. “Burlington, our neighbors, and people all over Vermont are fortunate to have this added opportunity to more easily reach their business or personal travel destinations. We thank American Airlines for its confidence in Burlington and welcome its Burlington to Charlotte service to our Airport. I appreciate all that Aviation Director Gene Richards and the Airport team have accomplished over the past three years," Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger said.

European regulators set to approve Delta pact, sources say
The European Commission is prepared to approve an agreement between Delta Air Lines, Alitalia and Air France-KLM, sources say. The carriers are part of the SkyTeam global alliance.

Ryanair Has USD$5 Million Taken From Bank Account
Almost USD$5 million was fraudulently taken from one of Ryanair's bank accounts, the airline said, adding that it understood the funds had been frozen and would be repaid shortly. "Ryanair confirms that it has investigated a fraudulent electronic transfer via a Chinese bank last week," the airline said in a statement.

Spirit Airlines Q1 Profit Jumps 83 Percent
Spirit Airlines reported a first-quarter profit of USD$69 million, up 83 percent on the same period last year. Last year, the budget airline posted net income of USD$37.7 million. Total revenue per available seat mile dropped 9.9 percent last quarter compared to a year earlier, on a capacity increase of 25 percent.

United Airlines lends a hand in Nepal aid effort
United Airlines is helping relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Nepal. The carrier will match donations of customers and employees up to $50,000, and will also give MileagePlus miles to loyalty members who donate. "Our hearts are with those living and working in Nepal as they recover from this devastating event," said Mark Anderson, senior vice president of corporate and government affairs for the carrier.

LAX served 4.2% more passengers in March
The number of passengers traveling through Los Angeles International Airport continued to climb last month. More than 6 million travelers passed through the airport in March, up 4.2 percent from 5.8 million travelers in the same month in 2014. Through the first three months of the year, LAX has seen 2.7 percent more passengers than it did in the same period a year earlier, according to figures released Tuesday by airport operator Los Angeles World Airports.

ShinMaywa US-2 involved in major accident at sea
A ShinMaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft operated by the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force was involved in a major accident off the coast of the nation’s Kochi province. A news report on social media shows the aircraft, bearing tail number 9905, floating nose down in the sea, its fuselage perpendicular to the waves.

UK to bolster Nepal relief efforts with Chinooks
The UK is to bolster its commitment to the relief effort in Nepal with the deployment of three Royal Air Force Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC3 heavy-lift helicopters. A Boeing C-17 strategic airlifter has already been used to transport urgently needed equipment and personnel to the Himalayan nation following the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck on 25 April.

Training key to RAF C-130J role expansion
The Royal Air Force’s Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules transports have continued to be heavily utilized following years in Afghanistan, and have been used in a range of humanitarian roles – most recently in delivering supplies in support of the crisis following the earthquake in Nepal on 25 April. A Hercules deployed to India via RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus on the evening of 28 April from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, and the transport will provide logistics support for Kathmandu once it arrives. The commitment follows a range of other humanitarian disaster relief operations that the UK aircraft have recently carried out, including the delivery of supplies to people on Mount Sinjar displaced as a result of Islamic State attacks in Iraq, and in support of a UN relief effort in South Sudan.
