The weather gods have it in for me {bugeye}

I'm used to carry my personal rain cloud around with me. But your own typhoon / hurricane - that's different. ;)

I'll keep the fingers crossed. My colleagues in our Houston office are still budy cleaning up the mess that Harvey has left behind. I stopped complaining about our mediocre summer here in Germany.

You should come here -the UK had 137% of the expected rain during August, with temperatures down 3.8C on the expected average. Locally we saw over 460mm of rain, near double the expected. Tonight around a third of rural UK will see freezing temperatures. Many Northern European countries are the same, a serious contrast to Southern Europe to the point where you can draw a line on the map that suggests the Gulf Stream is hitting Europe a few hundred miles further South than it used to. Could be a fun winter....

Got up to 104 F here today. So that's always fun.

It's still 97 at almost 6:50 PM.

Today, we have a rare Air Quality Alert for MSP. Those wildfires are making it difficult for people with chronic lung issues to breathe.

We've just gone over a week without seeing temperatures above freezing. Even here in one of the most temperate parts of the UK the average temperature ranges from -2c to -11c daily. We're due to defrost briefly next Tuesday :|

Here in OUL, it's a nice balmy -7C at the moment.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Until four days ago, the snowbanks were five feet high. With highs in the 40's F. (10 C.), that snow is disappearing fast. There are people out there wearing shorts and t-shirts. I'm just happy that I can replace my climate control motor and squirrel cage on my truck without wearing a coat.

Not much fun taking off or landing in the NE tonight. EWR departures were shut down for quite awhile due to crosswinds higher than guide line limits for several airlines. LGA had part of a hangar roof blow off and had the same problem EWR did, lots of pilot refusals to takeoff due to crosswinds. Landings were sporadic but go arounds weren't. Not going to be much better tomorrow for the TATL arrivals.
What's the point of an open door policy if inside the open door sits a closed mind?

DCA wasn't much better. Saw a couple of clips over on FB of aborted landings. Reminded me of MAN style crosswind landings. Serious crabbing for a few flights. (one of them was a WN 73 - didn't stand a chance on the first go and don't know if he tried again).

One of the weather models is predicting 16 to 23 inches of snow for us on Saturday. Haven't seen the other models.

Took liberties to unlock this thread.

Reason: Current winter storm blowing through Chicagoland - that started yesterday and shows no sign of abating . . . fluffy (fortunately - not heavy and wet) white stuff and 30-40 mph winds. Spectacular weekend.

Ten inches of snow in the yard yesterday and now the Lake Michigan effect . . . . another 4-6 inches today.

Oh, and this mornings ambient temp in Chicagoland - my grid - is a whopping +3F.

I obviously didn't move far enough south. I am not amused. {guns}

-24F/up to -14F. 35mph wind makes it about -55F wind chill in Chicagoland. Chicago has officially broken it's all time record for cold temps.

It's a bit chilly out there this morning.

Meanwhile the areas surrounding Manchester have ground to a halt following roughly an inch of snow, as per tradition. {facepalm}
