If it makes you feel any better, HEL and their much-vaunted "snowhow" are in a right mess as well.

Last time I connected there in the snow, our A350 sat right in front of the gate for 10 minutes because the stand guidance on the brand-new gate couldn't see an A350 through snow. {sarcastic}

ORD has cancelled 900+ flights, MDW has cancelled 300 flights.

Edit: Caveat: 1500 flights cancelled at ORD, 300 cancelled at MDW today. It isn't over yet. Overnight low will be 8 degrees colder . . . . and then snow tomorrow afternoon . . . rain on Saturday. {boxed}

Well, let's see, I think whatever deity to whom you pray simply has left over weather systems and just tosses 'em at Chicago for grins.

-30F on my deck right now, wind is back to somewhat normal at 15mph from the west. Windchill is -45F.

Strangely enough, we'll be up to 0F by midnight tonight, and +50F on Monday. With rain of course.

Today's ORD cancellations already top 1500, MDW at over 300.

Hate to be a scheduler for any carrier serving CHI today.

Rain on top of all that crap will be lovely. {crazy}

-15C and sunny here (for the 10 minutes the sun was up)... someone even took their hot air balloon for a jolly.

Typical muppet shows up to ORD-

"What do you mean my flight has been canceled?!"

Guess who's flying to BUF and MDW/ORD next week... {bored}

I had hoped that my days in the Arctic freezer were over, now that I left business in Kazakhstan and Mongolia behind me.

But it looks like the worst will be over until I arrive. Keeping the fingers crossed...

For our friends in the UK, watching the whole country collapse under the crushing weight of 1/4" of snow, you're not alone:

[Finnish] State-owned rail services provider VR has announced that it will cancel all inter-city train rides until Thursday due to heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures. Last weekend, VR had said that snow would cause delays and cancellations into Monday.

My flight home on Sunday was 20 minutes late leaving HEL because the pushback tug could do nothing but wheelspin. Rain on ice will do that. {crazy}

Glorious sunny day today, for what it's worth.

Got 9 inches (22 cm) of snow last night. Ten more inches on the way for tonight and tomorrow. So, fellow snow friends, why the HELL do people wash their cars the day before a snow storm? There's a line of cars at the car wash. Maybe it's my strange mindset, but the LAST time to wash my truck is before a snow storm, considering they're going to salt the roads and make them all messy and slushy.

We've set an all-time record for February snow here in Wisconsin. I got stuck this morning in my 4x4 and we just got done digging out the girlfriend's car. The snow is three feet deep in the front yard. A month ago, there was no snow and you could see the brown grass.

Driving around the Denver Metro today (snow/ice contaminated roads, flurries, visibility poor to low), I have come to the conclusion that the laws of physics apparently don't apply to your vehicle if one or more of the following apply:

Your headlights lights are off
You have an empty ski rack
You have a bumper sticker advising others of your native Coloradan status
You see at least three square inches of pavement
You have a "Respect Life" affinity plate from the Colorado DMV

Snowmageddon has arrived in DEN

KDEN: winds 330 @ 41, gusting 55 | RVR: 1000ft | Vertical Vis: 200ft
KAPA: winds 340 @ 38, gusting 59 | Vis: under 1/4sm | Vertical Vis: 200ft

Both locations have heaving snow, blowing snow (flying cows, small children, etc). Looking at FlightAware, flights are not happening. DEN has two inbound (LH and BA) scheduled for afternoon arrivals, but I see them diverting.

The Scanner is blowing up.

South Metro Fire is stretched thin with multiple MVAs, most with injuries. The were recently despatched to assist Aurora Fire with a "mass casualty incident." I didn't catch the location. "Power Line Problems" is another frequent dispatch.

CSP has south bound I-25 closed from the south metro all the way to Colorado Springs. Vehicles are still getting around the barriers, though, frustrating efforts. Some Troopers have reported visibility so poor that they can't see past the hoods of their patrol cars.

Both CSP and Arapahoe County Dispatchers have advised their field units that the radio system is experiencing heavy traffic and to expect busy signals. Since many agencies are on the Statewide trunked system, they are not the only agencies to be experiencing issues.

Power has been flickering most of the morning. It's getting more frequent with a couple of very brief brown-outs within the past hour.

Facebook seems to be out as well. I think they have a data center somewhere here in the metro so that might be the issue.
Make Orwell fiction again.

KDEN just shut down all runways. Their snow crew "can't keep up" is official word.

Minnesota and Western Wisconsin is getting 2 to 3 inches of rain from Tuesday to Thursday. Temps are in the mid-40's. Flood warnings are issued. Basements are flooding. The 50" of snow that we've already received is disappearing quickly and sidewalks and driveways are icy. If this rain that we're getting were snow, we'd get about 24" of it.
