Snowmageddon has arrived in DEN
KDEN: winds 330 @ 41, gusting 55 | RVR: 1000ft | Vertical Vis: 200ft
KAPA: winds 340 @ 38, gusting 59 | Vis: under 1/4sm | Vertical Vis: 200ft
Both locations have heaving snow, blowing snow (flying cows, small children, etc). Looking at FlightAware, flights are not happening. DEN has two inbound (LH and BA) scheduled for afternoon arrivals, but I see them diverting.
The Scanner is blowing up.
South Metro Fire is stretched thin with multiple MVAs, most with injuries. The were recently despatched to assist Aurora Fire with a "mass casualty incident." I didn't catch the location. "Power Line Problems" is another frequent dispatch.
CSP has south bound I-25 closed from the south metro all the way to Colorado Springs. Vehicles are still getting around the barriers, though, frustrating efforts. Some Troopers have reported visibility so poor that they can't see past the hoods of their patrol cars.
Both CSP and Arapahoe County Dispatchers have advised their field units that the radio system is experiencing heavy traffic and to expect busy signals. Since many agencies are on the Statewide trunked system, they are not the only agencies to be experiencing issues.
Power has been flickering most of the morning. It's getting more frequent with a couple of very brief brown-outs within the past hour.
Facebook seems to be out as well. I think they have a data center somewhere here in the metro so that might be the issue.
Make Orwell fiction again.
