Thanks to the NAS crew

I never realized how much NAS was part of my morning routine until it was gone. Wake up, go to the nearby convenience store for a fountain pop, drive home, and then do my morning internet routine, starting with reading the NAS Daily post and checking to see what others had to say.

I'll admit that I started getting a little anxious after the first week it was down. Thank you for the hard work it took to get it back up.

Ed (ShanwickOceanic) deserves all the credit. The effort he put in to get this site up and running again is far more than we deserve {thumbsup}

While we're on the subject, I apologise for being largely absent from the public side of this debacle. I'm having an internal debate with myself over whether to tell you all the full circumstances of that situation but I realise I could have done more, and for that, I am truly sorry.
A million great ideas...

Stefan did a lot of the heavy lifting, including babysitting the transfer of the backups, and Ed cocked something up months ago that nearly made the whole thing futile, so I'm hardly basking in glory here.

It's also pretty hard to do social media with no real updates from me and the passwords locked in a database you can't get to - another lesson learned for me. I believe Vic took care of things on that side as well as could be done

I know what Mark means, though. I hadn't realised just how ingrained into my daily routine this place is. When the recovery was going badly, I'd alt-tab into a browser and attempt to check for new posts on the very site I was trying to fix. Strangely enough it didn't work.

I have a confession to make. When it became obvious that NAS would be down for a while, I wanted to stay up on the aviation news. Sigh. I temporarily signed up with airliners.net. And, yes, the drama is still there, if you're wondering. It is interesting to see that so many of the same people who were bratty teenaged know-it-alls from ten years ago are still there, except now a lot of them are now mature adults... many of whom are now working in the aviation industry.

Hey, Ed, Vic and Stefan.... I just had a thought. Do all of the NAS members know to use netairspace.cc to access this site (instead of netairspace.com)? Would sending an email to all of the members informing them of the new URL be beneficial? The only way I found out about the .cc URL was because of the NAS Facebook group.

That's a good point, Mark. I'd like to hold off on it, though, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, I'm still sorting out technical mess in the background, which must take priority. And, to be perfectly honest, having a low load on the server while I'm doing that makes me feel less guilty about restarting the web server or even rebooting the entire machine should the need arise.

Secondly, I want some clarity on what is happening with the .com domain. If that's coming back, then I'll be redirecting the .cc back to it anyway. If it turns out that this move is indeed permanent, then I can take the appropriate actions on the server and we can think about a mass announcement once we know what URL to announce. {bored}

By all means spread the word, though; this URL is no secret.
