Anyone ever have that happen? My understanding was that there has to be a bullet stuck in the barrel from a misfire for that to happen. It was probably that guys first shot of the day so that was probably not the a cause.

Hey, I use a boresighting laser ever time I scope a rifle or put nights on a pistol. Never blown up a weapon yet. Of course, I always keep a dummy round in the chamber of any weapon being worked on so that I don't blow things up....

It's not that hard to put it on paper at 15 or 25 and then work out to your normal targeting distance. They've always been more trouble than they're worth to me, but they have made some improvements in the last few years.

What do you think happened? Hard to know if he had a squib round the day before or if he left a cleaning patch in the bore or used the rifle muzzle-down for a walking stick or... ? Looks like it scared the sauce out of him though.

Mud in the barrel would be my guess. Happens from time to time, especially if you African carry. That's why I tape my muzzle.

Yeah, that works... but it's a little on the odd side when you throw the rifle on the rack and drive into town..

How do you get crud in the barrel carrying your weapon in the waistband of your pants?

That's Mexican carry sir.

And I suppose you could get crud in the barrel that way too... but they make adult products to help with that.

It happens occasionally.

As mentioned usually there is some sort of metal fatigue issue or a blocked barrel.

I personally hope it never happens to me.

It's never happened to me but I know people who have had to foot the bill for a new rifle after that. Squib loads typically only occur in rifles with handloads where the shooter used insufficient (or no) powder. The more likely reason is a barrel being obstructed by mud. In the field, it's not too difficult to get some mud lodged in the barrel. If the barrel isn't cleaned thoroughly, it can explode when next fired; it really doesn't require much obstruction to cause the barrel to split.
