According to the story, during testing it was discovered that using the engine anti-ice for more than 5 minutes in dry air could seriously compromise the engine cowling inlet by damaging the internal parts.

I guess this begs the question why would anyone even think to turn it on if not in visible moisture at 10C or less? What would be the point??

The AD will affect just about every 737max, of all variants, across the board. Basically a paperwork fix till software is deployed.

I can't tell you how many MD-80 inlets we saw disbonded due to anti-ice issues.

I think this is going to be more of a nothing burger. I'll confirm when I read the Service Bulletin.
