All about Airlines and Airliners.

There was some speculation over pictures of its hangar on fire (such as https://theaviationgeekclub.com/photos- ... destroyed/), but I believe it has been confirmed that the only airworthy AN 225 was destroyed.

Those images are really awful quality-The entire Ukraine thing is a frightening mess and the West should have seen this coming ages ago.

They've known what was coming for a long time, why didn't they move it out of country?

I read that it was undergoing maintenance and had the engines removed.
Money can't buy happiness; but it can get you flying, which is pretty much the same.

Broke a strut on one of the main gear bogeys on its last landing. A replacement casting was being machined when the An-225 was first rumoured to have been destroyed.
A million great ideas...

Some sources state that it isn't completely destroyed..... but I don't know, so much of this bird has to be made custom.

Claims are that it would cost $3B USD and 5 years to restore... I don't see it.

It estimated that the restoration work will cost $3 billion and take five years.

Ukroboronprom said the aircraft was destroyed at Gostomel airport to the northeast of Kiev, which is understood to be in the line of march from Belarus, one of the launching points for Russia’s attack.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also tweeted to state that the jet had been destroyed.

Ukroboronprom, however, issued a second statement, quoting the director of Antonov Airlines, stating that the aircraft was under maintenance at the commencement of the attack and therefore unable to fly away.

“Currently it is impossible to assess the plane’s condition and the possibility and cost of its restoring due the lack of access to the aircraft as the control over the airport is taken by the Russian occupiers,” says the updated statement.

From today's NAS Daily, it doesn't look like this thing sill be making a comeback.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

Not an arrow. Those are the goal posts of a soccer field behind the air field.

Further news story with a couple of pictures and a really sad video. Looks like somebodies Cessna paid the price as well at the Antonov. At the end of the story it says:

Ukroboronprom, the manufacturer, said it would cost over $3 billion to rebuild the plane, according to Reuters.

Could the partially-built AN 225 be finished?
