Multiple sources are reporting that Air Namibia have returned what is left of their fleet to Windhoek, stopped accepting bookings and have ceased trading.

The Namibian government have confirmed that they have approved the voluntary liquidation of Air Namibia in order to protect the airline's assets from a claim by Challenge Air. 600 people will lose their jobs.

This is such a sad story. I used to work quite closely with Air Namibia. In the 90s, Air Namibia was very professionally run. Sadly, former president Sam Njoma found himself a new girlfriend - a travel agent who fancied herself the next CEO of Air Namibia. And that's exactly what happened. Sam's bimbo was put in charge of the airline. Her vast experience as a travel agent was more than adequate to drive the carrier into massive mismanagement.
Look, it's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.
