Something more positive coming from all this:

Queen's University in Belfast (QUB) has chartered a jet to take hundreds of students from China to NI in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese students offer a vital source of income at a time when Covid-19 has triggered fears about huge losses, the Irish News reports.

Queen's said new and returning students would be offered places on the direct flight from Beijing on 18 September.

The Irish News claims that this is a "jumbo jet" and calculates a cost of £600k to do the job with a 747 (including "10 hours loading and unloading time at either end"!). BBC News says it'll be operated by Qatar. So unlikely to be a 747.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Virgin Australia is killing off Tiger. I flew them a few times when I lived in Singapore. They were good, super cheap, clean, and efficient. What a shame....

I had missed this information. Wonder how many airlines have since decided to take advantage of the situation if economics allows? I know UA was running cargo flights with cargo in the belly, bins, and closets. Would it be worth the time and effort to remove the seats? Looks like some airlines have done it. I would have to imagine there is a different floor loading capacity for a passenger purposed aircraft than a purposed freighter.

The Federal Aviation Administration late Friday gave U.S. airlines permission to remove passenger seats and transport cargo on the floor of the cabin in aircraft being deployed on cargo-only flights.

What's the point of an open door policy if inside the open door sits a closed mind?
