American Airlines pushes back 737 MAX cancellations for 2nd time

American Airlines is pushing back the expected date on when its currently grounded Boeing 737 MAX fleet could take up to the skies again. The U.S. carrier now expects the airliner to come back no earlier than early September 2019.

American Airlines is extending cancellations for MAX for the second time, pushing the previously set August 19 deadline to September 3, 2019. For the airline, this means cancellations of approximately 115 flights per day.

Nevertheless, the carrier is “confident” that impending 737 MAX software updates will lead to recertification of the aircraft “soon” and claims it is “pleased with progress to date”, as is noted in a statement issued on June 9, 2019.
