Well, since I don't travel much any more on the job, getting in another ride on the Queen of the Skies looks mighty slim. Fortunately, I did get many trips on the 747 - all of them with Northwest.

DTW - NRT and back many times
NRT - SIN and back three times
DTW - AMS only once IIRC - most times that was a DC-10 both ways
NRT - MSP once
NRT - LAX once
MSP - SEA one I think too. (shortest 747 flight for me.

Managed to grab one coming back from BOS a couple of years ago, with BA. I had many happy memories of bouncing back and forth across the Atlantic on BA 747s as a teen, so I was thrilled... until I got on board. Wow, that old girl was tired.

Two more 747s retiring

Garuda Indonesia's PK-GSG has been retired last week, his sister PK-GSH is said to be retired in april.

My first flight ever was on an AA 747-100 LAX-JFK in June 1971. Had a window seat and it was a glorious ride. My last 747 ride was memorable, NRT-ORD, sitting in the upper deck. Many, many other flights - IAD-FRA, LHR-IAD, SFO-HKG, NRT-SFO, SYD-LAX.

Off to Pasture today. She ferried from ANC-SEA earlier today to offlaod all Alaska Airlines owned equipment, Scheduled to PAE for lease return this evening.

Another Swiss A343 leaves the fleet. HB-JMK is reportedly being parted out as a spares aircraft to support the newer A340s going to Edelweiss.

Indeed, this poor bird was flown yesterday to ENS (Enschede, Germany) after serving its last revenue flight from JNB earlier this week

This thread makes me so sad. Unlike most here, I get few opportunities to fly. Thanks, ATC work! :'(

Sadly, a DL MD-90 is said to be retiring tomorrow for BYH.

Good news, for now--The MD-90 will continue flying for a while, but retirements may start in December of this year.

That makes me sad. I've done a billions legs on DL's MD-90s...LOVE that airplane. It's awesome to sit by the window across from engine in a pounding rain and watch water flow backward and get sucked into it.

LXs RJ100 withdrawal is almost complete - I'm not sure if they have any left in fact. I haven't heard the dinosaur roar of the flaps over my apartment for a while.

Just the two - HB-IYU which went tech in Rotterdam on Monday and hasn't moved since and HB-IYZ, currently operating the last LCY-ZRH flight of the day.

A company called Falko Regional Leasing seem to be picking up the newer frames. No idea what they have planned, though converting them to combis and flying regional ops around Australia seems a popular destination for retiring 146s.

The AA fleet is less one MD-82 now.

Etihad have retired their last A345. A6-EHD is now parked at Teruel, almost certainly to be scrapped.

Just 10 years old, too.

21. August BR892 HKG-TPE operated by B-16411 will be the last commercial B747 Eva Air Passenger flight. They will continue to use B747 for Cargo flights until the new B777F arrive.

The first A380 has been retired:


9V-SKA, MSN 003, first A380 that was delivered to an airline. Retired after 11.3 years. Last revenue flight was on 11 June.

The first few air frames suffered from a lot of teething problems, which may have contributed to the rather early retirement.

Still the only A380 I've seen in person. These were in SIN back in 2008. I think it was the only one flying for SQ at the time. Maybe a second was already delivered, but I'm not real sure. One from the terminal, and two from when my outbound taxied by....





Edit: That looks like 9A-SKB. Second one for SQ maybe?
