Funny, it's the exact opposite here in OUL, almost everything is north/south. Long skinny country. Pretty much anything that goes over here is for RVN, KTT or IVL (unless it goes RAAAAAAAAAAAA, in which case it's the ATR72 for KEM), and is probably out of HEL if it's not a Santa job. Most of the long-haul stuff tends to pass well south of here, either Europe-Far East on a north-easterly track or the ME3 birds heading north-west for SFO/LAX. When I do see something long-haul overhead, it's very often been PIA. Occasionally Aeroflot, but it seems to be cheaper for them to remain in Russian airspace and just head around the north of Finland and Norway.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.
