Looks a bit odd - did they just miss the last exit?

Seems as if the crew lost control after touchdown, and the aircraft got into a skid. From AvHerald:

A number of passengers reported in common, that the aircraft touched down unusually hard, veered to the left exiting the runway to the left, then veered right and crossed the runway before coming to a stand still right off the runway. After about 15 minutes the passengers disembarked through the two forward left hand doors, there was no visible damage to the aircraft. The onward leg to Singapore was cancelled, the passengers are currently being rebooked onto other flights to Singapore.

Observer "Flyer" on the ground said the aircraft touched down past the 1000 feet marker but within the touch down zone, veered left beyond the left runway edge onto grass between taxiways B4 and B6, then veered right and went across the runway exiting the runway to the right before coming to a stand still.

Whitney Houston almost missed Thanksgiving (somewhere)

Whitney Houston nearly tossed from Delta flight

http://www.11alive.com/news/article/209 ... lta-flight

According to the reports, a flight attendant asked Houston to buckle her seat belt, and she "got diva." A second crewmember told the singer that if she did not fasten her seat belt, the plane would not leave.

She finally agreed.

After "stay seated", "buckle your seat belt" is probably the most basic safety instruction. {facepalm}

N90QL, a King Air F90, crashed into a house in Midland, TX this morning while on approach to Midland Airpark (KMDD). The pilot of the aircraft was taken to the hospital and treated for an injury to his arm.

The aircraft departed Wharton Regional Airport (near Sugarland, TX) at 6:26am this morning and crashed about 8:00am.

Weather in this area has been poor this morning, low visibility and ceilings in mist and fog.

A pilot crashed his twin engine plane into the back of a home in Midland this morning, but miraculously no one was seriously injured. The plane developed engine trouble causing it to crash into the home. Neighbors pulled the pilot from the plane to safety. The house at 4500 Trevino quickly began to go up in flames. 81-year old Estrella Trowbridge, the occupant of the home, was making cookies when the plane hit the back of her home. The woman ran out the front of her house and was later treated and released at the Midland Memorial Hospital. Midland firemen controlled the fire to keep it from spreading to other homes.

Less than two weeks after the last one, another plane has crashed in the City of Midland, TX, near KMDD, at the corner of Garfield and Whitmire. Happened just minutes ago so no details yet. Local news says pilot and passenger are OK.

It was just across the street from the airport, it's at rest pointed away from the airport but there are skid marks on the street (along with a broken-off wheel), and it's pointed away from the direction of the wind. Looks to me like it was on approach and when it impacted the street it spun around. Engine-out on approach maybe? Ran out of fuel? It's about 200-300 yards from the end of the runway at this point.

That aircraft is registered to Midland College, crashed just yards away from their campus. Likely a part of their pilot training program.

1 dead and 2 injured in mid-air over Leicestershire

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/dec/1 ... lane-crash

A man has died and two other people have been treated for minor injuries after two light aircraft collided near an airport.

Leicestershire police said the planes landed in the Great Stretton area of Leicestershire shortly after 2pm on Sunday.

A police spokesman confirmed that the pilot of one of the aircraft died at the scene of the incident, while two men travelling in the other plane both received minor injuries.

The spokesman said the planes "landed" in the vicinity of Gartree Road, which has been sealed off to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident.

The spokesman added: "One of the aircraft contained one person, a man, who died at the scene. The second aircraft contained two men who both received minor injuries.

There's a TU-134 acting like a MD-11 in Kyrgyzstan right now.

Clicky the Linky

BISHKEK: A Soviet-built jet operated by a Kyrgyz carrier broke its wing, overturned and caught fire Wednesday as it tried to land in deep fog in southern Kyrgyzstan, leaving 31 people injured, officials said.

The Soviet-built Tu-134 operated by local carrier Kyrgyzstan had flown from the capital Bishkek and was trying to land at the airport in the city of Osh, said Ilyas Egemberdiyev, a spokesman for the airline.

Rescuers quickly extinguished the fire and evacuated 82 passengers and six crewmembers. Emergency Situations Minister Kubatbek Boronov said that 31 people were injured, and 17 of them were hospitalized.

WN flight blows two tires, aborts take off at SMF.

The Southwest Airlines flight that suffered two blown tires at Sacramento International Airport has been towed from the runway.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/sr65fT) that all runways at the airport were again open on Wednesday morning, a day after the tires blew and forced one of the runways to close.

Was dropping my mom off at the airport a little after it happened. BIG news for the day, of course {sarcastic} , with the news waiting for passengers to interview them as we left her at the gate.

Took this picture as we left the parking spot. Had fun with a skycap stating that too many would panic at the thought of this happening.

BTW, WN got jacked again this morning in SMF...when it hit a bird on takeoff.

Kyrgyzstan Altyn bird, EX-020:

View photo on airliners.net

Touched down hard, MLG collapsed, right wing was separated, aircraft rolled over on its back and caught fire. Still, everyone made it out alive. These sure are sturdy birds.

Looks like emergency services responded quickly. Not something you would necessarily expect at a remote local airport in Kyrgyzstan.

California pilot busted by CHP for drunken flying, pilot was flying at 50 feet.

http://blog.sfgate.com/crime/2012/01/04 ... en-flying/

Two CHP air officers were patrolling Highway 37 in Sonoma County around 4 p.m. when they noticed a small, blue and gold, single-engine sport plane flying dangerously low to the ground — an estimated 50 feet when regulations require at least 500.

Officers followed the plane, a 2011 Aerotrek, until it landed at Petaluma Municipal Airport. Officers were talking to the pilot and owner, a 62-year-old man, when they noticed alcohol on his breath, said CHP flight Officer Jeff Moring.

Field sobriety tests indicated the pilot was drunk. He was arrested on suspicion of reckless flying and operating an aircraft under the influence. His name has not been released.

One from a couple of days ago.

Jet2 733 grounded after being hit by bus shelter:-

http://www.scotsman.com/edinburgh-eveni ... _1_2036529

An investigation has been launched after a plane was hit by a bus shelter which was blown over a fence at Edinburgh Airport, it was reported.

The parked Jet2 737 was said to have been damaged in the incident, during the gale force winds which battered the Capital yesterday.

The Met Office recorded a wind speed of 102mph in Edinburgh during the storm.

Edinburgh Airport said it was now working with Jet2 to avoid a repeat of the incident.

A spokesman for the airport said the bus shelter had been sheered in half before it was blown towards the plane, adding: “We have now launched an investigation.”

I bet that left a mark!
